I am having a bad flare at this time. I am in so much pain and nothing seems
to help. why is it that the doctors dont want to give prednisone? "I know
that would help me. I haven't ask for it this time but I have asked in the
past and my doc dont want to give it. I am 66 years old and cant see what
it would hurt it has been way over a year since I have taken any. I do know
it makes me feel better.
sorry but I just needed to whine to someone. this pain is terrible.
thanks for listening

not sure why yor doc won't prescribe pred. I always have medrol and
have used it once in two years but it is prn for me. What meds are
you on? Is this a GP or a rheumatologist who won't prescribe pred?
What does your doc say when you ask for pred?

Janice,
I don't know why you can get pred either. Is it because of some other
health issue?
It seems they should give you an explanation.
I had a systemic cortisone injection on Wednesday to see if it would
calm down my current flare and also a script for vicodin for the pain.
This was from my rheumatologist. In the past he has given me medrol
packs to get through a flare.
Call your doctor tomorrow and insist on something to help you.

your doctor may object to long-term use of prednisone, but i don't
understand why he wouldn't consider a short-term course of it to deal
with the flare unless there are some other health problems he's
concerned about. so sorry you're going through this.

Hi Janice,
It is not OK for you to feel the way you do and it is the doctors
responsibility to do what he/she can to make your day more normal. I would
ask my doctor again if I can take prednisone and if you can't,,,, why not.
OKkkk, no pills,, how about a steroid shot in the rear end for your overall
condition.... OK,,, he/she won't do that either. Look the doctor in the
face and ask,,, what are you going to do,,, I can't stand to be this way any
longer. If the answer is nothing,,,, tell the doctor its another doctor
then in a way that the doctor will know you mean business.... It is not OK
for you to feel this way,,,, remember they get the big bucks to help you or
atleast make you understand why you are not being helped.

you are on my prayer list. I wish there was something else I could do for
you though.
I know how you feel about getting the pred. I feel for you sweetie. You take
care and hang in there.

Maybe it's time for another doctor. I only take 3 mg of pred a day, but they
make SUCH a difference, I would be hard put to survive without it. Ask.
The worse he can do is to say no again. Ask him WHY he won't give it. He
might have a good reason, then again, he might not. At least you'd know
where he's coming from and could make a decision based on that.

My next appt with my hematologist is in June but I have called and left
message for them to call me. If he will not give me anything I am going to
ask him to send me to The Pain Clinic. I have been there before for my back
problems but I called them also and they say I must have a new referral for
my arthritis pain problems. It is up to God and the hematologist now. my
pain almost feels like flu like symptoms. has any of you had this type pain
with OA?

At times when my back pain gets overwhelming I have felt sick to my stomach
(nauseous).
