Went to drs today. Here is what happened.

Well I feel blessed I think. ;-)

I went to doctors today. It was suppose to be a low income clinic. It turned
out it wasn’t. But they did give me a break. I had to do it, because I am
not doing good at all. I am in bad shape.

He is running lab work on me for CBC, Comp Metabolic, Lipid Panel, TSH, and
a Urinary Analysis.

Then I still have to pay for all the meds.Oh ouch, $195.16.  He prescribed
more Atrovent and Albuterol for the nebulizer. Larger amounts than the other
doctor did when I saw him on 3/23. He only gave me 25 vials of each and
expected me to do it 4 times a day which would have been a 6 day supply.
This will be then a 24 day supply if I have to do it that many times. He is
also giving me 7 days of Diflucin for the yeastie beasties I have had for a
long time now. He is putting me on life time predisone for the COPD and
Asthma and the Addisons I will start this week with 20 mg, for a week, then
10 mg a day from there on out. A doctor that is finally going to address the
adrenal issues for a change. He also is giving me the Ativan back for the
anxiety.

I might have to go on a bp med. It was 160/120 today. But when I saw the
other dr on 3/23 it was only 136/89. So I have a feeling it was just up that
high today because of all the stress lately and not feeling good. I was
feeling so sick when I went in there.

They have a plan that if you pay $345 a year, you can go in to see the
doctor whenever you want, and only pay $30 a visit. Also you get a 40
percent  discount on lab work and 20 percent discount on xrays and
medications. So If I can save up the money, I think that will be a good
deal.

He told me the elbow problem was fms. I am wondering about that one though,
because fms doesn’t make the area around the elbow swell. So that one is
still questionable.

Oh he said he believes this is asthma and not bronchitis. He doesn’t think I
have a sinus infection either. So that is why he is putting me on long term
pred, to try to keep the asthma and copd under control.

He said yes, my mouth, in the cheek area is all swollen up, but he is not
sure what it is. AT least he was honest. ;-)

He also said the milky white stuff I am getting out of my eyes when I am
sleeping is from allergy and could be an infection. He said the infection is
ok as long as I don’t have auto immune stuff going on like Lupus, RA, those
kind of things. So he is not treating it. The jury is still out on that one.
I don’t know what to think about that one. I thought that the milky white
stuff was from a yeast infection but didn’t know if you could get it in the
eyes.

I have yeast in the mouth, arm pits, under the headed south group and
another area too, so I figured the eyes might have joined in.

I also have a callus on foot that has a plantars wart growing there too. So
no wonder at times that bone along the foot hurts.

I did forget to ask him about the muscle spasms. Now can I forget that. Dah.

He spent about 2 hours with me.

They just opened this week and I was the second patient that had come in so
far.

I have too much going on at one time to cover it all even in two hours. ;-)

But at least I got some of it covered.

I am suppose to go back in about a month, two weeks if I am not feeling
better. I asked him because of the money if we could stretch it to a month
and he said yeah. That is when we will go over the blood tests and such. I
also thinks he wants to watch my bp and if it didn’t go down, then I am sure
he will make me go on the bp meds.

Whoa did this get long, sorry, I didn’t mean for it to get this long.

Just wanted to let you all know how it was going.

Hi SJ,

Sorry to hear you are not doing well.  Have you tried those prescription
programs for help with your meds? My doctor applied for one for me to
get my heart med for free. The state of Washington just got a
prescription plan where I can get a discount on my meds until medicare
kicks in in August.

I will keep you in my prayers. I do hope you are feeling better soon.

BIG HUGS,
Carole

I'm glad you found someone who will attend to some of this.  I hope you can
save up the $345 so you can have more regular access to a doctor.  Maybe
they'll let you do payments on it?

Carole's idea about prescription access programs is good.  I just checked
needymeds.com and there are programs for albuterol, atrovent and ativan.
Don't know what else you are on regularly, but it's a start!  pred is cheap,
of course.

Oh, you can get that crud in your eyes from allergies.  I've been there.
Pre-claritin, I'd get it in the spring and fall pollen seasons all too
regularly, esp. overnight when i was horizontal.  Bad part was it made my
eyes red for a while and I'd have to use drops to avoid being sent to
employee health when i went in to work at the hospital!  *I* knew it wasn't
pink eye, but that's such a concern in hospital staffs, I doubt they would
have taken my word for it.  Of course, if it is the yeast in your case, the
diflucan should help.

Thanks Nann and  Carole, I will check into those programs. I need to do alot
of research on this stuff. I can't afford those meds at that price. Heck
some of it is only for 20 days and then I have to refill it again.

Nann, sorry you get that too. Man the other night it felt like there was a
rock in my  one eye. Heck with pebbles, it was a rock. LOL ;-)

I was wondering what was causing the white milky stuff to cake on my eyelid
and under my eye, then I realized it was coming from the eye. So that is why
I was asking him about it.

It seems every year, I learn something new about my allergies. It seems to
be something new added in there every year.

This year I am really suffering, the pollen counts have not been much below
9 and have been up to 11 so it is not doing good for me. Even though the
allergist tryed telling me oh no the only thing you are allergic to is
timothy grass. Yeah right in his dreams. The one day it rained it did get
down to 7.8. I almost paniced, didn't know what to do without the itchy
eyes, and nose I can't breathe thru. LOL ;0)

The last week or so we have had two wind storms go thru and today is another
one. This one appears to be as bad as the one the other day that I thought
was going to come right thru the wall. So it is not helping with stirring up
those allergies either.

I feel for all of us allergy sufferers out there.

Do a search for your meds online. I have found a couple of different
programs - one for my heart meds and one for my blood pressure med. The
others are all little generic ones, so they are only $8-12 each. I can
handle those, it's the two biggees that I need help with. Try the
needymeds.com place that Nann said, and also www.pparx.org. Also, check
the websites for the drugs you are taking - they often have programs
listed on their sites, or you can call their customer service and they
will have info on programs that can help :)

Carole
Squirrely - 18 Apr 2007 02:57 GMT
Thanks again Carole, I will try to do that tomorrow. Still not feeling that
great today and so tired.

I am having breathing issues too again today because of these heavy winds. I
am not out in the air, but I did have to go get the mail. That didn't help,
plus this place we rent is not sealed tight so you still get some particles
in here from the pollen and dust.

I saw a funnel cloud over across town from us. These winds are so wicked.

The better part of this now is the pred is working again, I am getting
mucous up again. It sounds looser in my chest too instead of so tight. So
that is a plus. I guess I will have to do my nebulizer one more time today
to make up for this wind stuff causing problems. ;-)

oh Carole, thanks for that site. I got to it first before the  needy meds.
Sorry Nann, I am hoping to get to the needy meds site tomorrow. Was too
tired to do both today.

That site  Carole also has free and low income clinics listed. That is what
i needed to look up for a long time. Dah.

I see there are a few around here after all. But I am undecided about it
since I did finally find a dr that will treat me with the pred which will
help with the breathing issues, the arthritis issues, and the addisons. So I
will have to see what happens.
Both of you though, I am also sharing these with the boys. They have no
medical either and with them having JRA,  FMS, and other chronic issues like
their mom, they could use them too. So thank you both very much.

The only meds I could find though on this site  Carole were the albuterol
inhalator, and the predisone tablets. So I am going to try the other site
too and see if I can get the others there. It listed them at the beginning,
but I guess for my area they don't have the other ones.

I think you will find some of your others on the needymeds site. That
was the only place I could find my Altace.

Good to hear about the clinics. I will  need to go to one of those if I
get sick and it's not a heart thing. Right now I have no insurance until
I get medicare in August. I can't understand why we have to wait two
years to get medicare after being declared disabled. It makes no sense
to me at all.

Carole,

I am hoping I will be able to find them. STill haven't got there to the
needymeds site yet. All of a sudden there are a few things I have to take
care of needing my attention. So I am hoping in the next day or two to get
back to searching again.

I am going to search some of the clinics in my area too. But if none of them
will work with me with the pred then I won't go there and stay at this one.
I really liked this one.

I know that is sad about waiting two years for medicare. It is like if you
got the disability, then they should know you need medical coverage too.
Dah.

Jo, bp at  136/89 is still too high. With all the meds you are on, your
wouldn't even notice another one for bp!
So sorry you have been so sick, and glad you did see this doctor.  Hope he

you.

I usually get that high Gwen when I am sick with something. Usually because
of the addisons and such I am lucky to be up around 90/60 so I don't want to
go on bp med. I went that route before and they kept dropping my bp down too
far.

SJo, This sounds like a good doctor who will help you get rid of some of
the stuff you are suffering with.  I hope you can get the money together
to join the plan but meanwhile please follow the advice to ask for help
from the drug companies.  If you can get even one or two of them fully
covered or at a reduced rate it should be very helpful.  Will be praying
that it all works out for you.

Have been worried about you Jo.  Glad to hear you got a good doctor!  If you
can try to tap into a program for meds that might help even more.  Also
encourage him to look for low cost med solutions - for example I take
nadolol for my blood pressure - low price works well for me - although not
for everyone.  We tried this first because of my high cost of meds.  Also
ask for any ideas for non med although I know you do some of these.

Hang in there - better times are coming - they have to be.

Thanks Kelly, Rhonda M, & Ann,

I am going to be looking in the next couple of days online for sites that
will help with meds and see if my dr will fill out the paper work. I hope
so. Then we shall see what we can do. It is hard with Jim being back
unemployed again. We are still having to live off his Dad and they are not
happy about it. Neither are we but what can you do. So it is really hard to
get the medical treatment I need.

I am trying some non medical ways of doing things too Kelly. But I do have
to have the other meds to survive this all. ;-)

I was just looking at the one site that Carole sent and they have free
clinics and low income clinics listed so I will be calling a few of them too
and see if I can get in there.

I only found two meds, the albuterol aerosol and the predisone tablets on
that one. So will have to go to the needymeds one and check it out. But that
will have to be done another day, I am hurting now.

OK I hope I didn't hurt  your feelings. I wasn't intending to do that. I
sometimes write wrong and don't say it right and get myself in trouble. I
meant it in a good way Kelly, I wasn't knocking you down, really I wasn't.
Besides that I don't think I have the strength to do that anyways. LOL ;-)

can stop sweating. I wish it worked that way. Oh man I hate perimenopause.

yeah, the pparx site is sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry and in the
past I've found them to have far fewer of the assistance programs listed than
needymeds.com - I try not to second-guess why this is.  When I was getting
arava through a program, it was never listed on pparx but was on needymeds.
I do know needymed has listings for ativan and atrovent as well, though I
didn't follow the links for more info.  And I only looked as far as the As.

Yeah, that allergy mucus escaping into the eyes is nasty.  If you can get
your hands on some allergy eyedrops, those are really helpful though they
sting going in.  IIRC, the generics are fairly cheap now.  I haven't needed
them as much since we moved north so I've had the same bottle for a while.

I'm really glad our pollen counts aren't up as high as yours!  Of course,
around the 45th parallel here, the pollen isn't kicking in yet - much.  But
the water in the basement means mold.......  Oh well.  I remember when I was
getting desensitization shots in Asheville, NC and one day the nurse
commented on how beautiful it looked outside and I said it was great *EXCEPT*
for the ragweed.  She laughed and said she'd never had any allergies and
working there had really opened her eyes to what we deal with!

Nann,

I am going to try to get to this site tonight if I can Nann. Things have
been jumping around her the last few days and with me not feeling well, I
don't get as much done as I would like. But I am still trying. ;-)

I am not sure what allergy type eyedrops you are talking about. I use
Refresh. I was thinking it was the yeast the first two days of the diflucin
because my eyes were feeling better. But got up yesterday clawing my eyes
out. LOL ;-) oh they itched bad. But I am not seeing anymore of the milky
stuff so it might still be connected. I missed my pill yesterday so I have
to get it today. I have 5 more days of it to take.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe this, but the pollen count is at 2.5. That
was quite a drop. So that wind must have moved most of that stuff out of
here. I hope. I hope it is not just a mess up on the pollen count scale.
I am so ready for the pollen count to be back down there so it is easier for
me to deal with. ;-)

It is funny about the allergy tests. The boys had the scratch test done and
the only thing that showed up with Drew was a cat allergy. Guess who has a
cat, he does. ;-)

Then later on maybe months later took them in to several different doctors,
that happens at a hmo, and they all said hayfever. ;-)

Then me having the blood tests done and they said no only allergic to
timothy grass. Well dah then why does my mouth swell up and tongue, and
throat when I eat shrimp or crab or now any fish. Why am I having allergic
symptoms then to half the stuff they tested me for in the blood tests. It
doesn't make sense to me. ;-)

I hope your allergies are doing better. I hope the pollen doesn't kick in
too bad for you.

life does have a way of interfering with our plans!  <chuckle> I felt halfway
decent yesterday and had decent weather, so drove 50 miles west to get some
garden stuff I couldn't find at our usual shopping venues, 25 miles east.
Got back with my bad wrist screaming and did nothing more all day but go to a

Mine are WalMart's generic "brand" and are just called "eye allergy relief".
The print is really small (lol, have bifocals off to read it) but it says the
active ingredients are Naphazoline HCL and Pheniramine maleate.  There are
lots of different brands out there, all with similar names and the same
ingredients.  They really do help me with the allergy eye symptoms.

ah, how lovely.  I hope it stays down for you for a while!

Allergy tests can be strange beasts.  I know my last round, I not only
reacted to some pollens and house dust enough for shots, but also had an
unusually strong reaction to the histamine control.  I didn't realize
something unusual was going on until the doctor pointed out that I kept
scratching and rubbing at that site.  He was surprised by that level of
histamine reaction - and had them shoot me up with decadron before he'd let
me leave.

well, it'll be rough until the next rain, but it's warm and sunny today and I
*will* work outside some anyway!  Mike's already volunteered to help and
Puddin' is beggin to get in his harness and rope to go out with us.
(actually, he wants to go out loose, but we don't allow that.  He loves
running off to explore too much and we do ahve bears and foxes in the area.)

I am sorry to hear that about your wrists. I hope they stopped their
complaining and screaming. But hey it was a concert you went to so with all
the other screaming, I bet no one but you heard your wrists screaming. LOL

I will have to check that out because I think the Refresh are expensive. I

be out there with the two of you. He will probably have his nose in the
gardening too. ;-)

There, I hope this is right. I couldn't figure out to do the inline posting.

Hey Jo,

Just getting ready to head back to sebastopol-will call as soon as I
get back which will probably be Thursday.  Here's the thing, Kiddo.  I
am betting I can get you the money for the doc plan.  Also, I agree
with the getting those meds free idea.  I have numerous clients who
get most of thier meds through the various programs.  Jo, are you on
disabilty?  It sure seems like getting medical to pick up those bills
would be a good idea.  Well prayers and cyberhugs

WOW he did spend some time with you .. That is cool . Thats the way its
supposed to be. You know if doctors would get back to doctoring and not
thinking in a business mindset then I think medical care might just improve.
This one sounds like a keeper. I am sorry though for your illness' that
stinks. Maybe this guy will be able to help you out.
Take care SJ ((((((Gentle Hugs))))))))

Hello Squirrely Jo,

My thoughts are with you. You have so many ailments all at once. I pray your
new doctor can help you get some relief.

I think and pray for all on this newsgroup, as we are all basically in the
same boat.

Yes we are Katherine, by the way welcome to the group. Sorry you have to be
here though.

I pray for all of us too. It is hard each person has so many issues they are
dealing with. I wish it were better for us all.

Don't forget that some of the major chain stores are selling some of
the basic generic medications at low prices.  In fact, a couple of
them actually beat the prescription copays I have to make through my
insurance.

Walmart - $4 for a 30-day supply
Kmart -     $15 for a 90-day supply
Target -    $4 for a 30-day supply (I believe they are matching
Walmart's list of meds and price)

Someone may have sent you the following web address already --

http://www.rxassist.org

Particularly the following within that site:

http://www.rxassist.org/patients/resources.cfm

http://www.rxassist.org/providers/resources.cfm

Lots of resources listed there, even organizations that provide
assistance with medical care and prescriptions for specific diseases.

Be well,

Thank you Karen for this info. I will be checking into it in the next few
days if I can. Things  have turned hecdick (sp) around here the last few
days.

I feel I am being led to do a few things to help out those less fortunate
than me. So I am going to be busy if it all works out.

But I do so appreciate this and will check it out as quickly as I can.
