Thanks Harv, Nann and Co for the welcome back. Yes, I will bore you
with a few stories soon. We are a bit shell shocked after returning to
a cold Brtain. I had just written quite a lot for you. Unfortunately
my browser threw a wobbly and I lost the lot, but I'll be back.

Best wishes

OK Folks. I'll start with the list and fill in some details later or
as requested.
In order
Heathrow London Jan 14
Air New Zealand to LAX (2 days there - hire car)
Air New Zealand to Auckland (transfer)
Air New Zealand to Christchurch, round the edge of  South Island, NZ
(2 weeks with hire car in S Island)
Ferry from South to North Island
up the middle of North Island (2 weeks with hire car)
Boarded P&O Oriana Auckland Feb 13
then called at Sydney Oz
Brisbane Oz (hire car for a day)
Hamilton Island Oz (tender to shore)
Shanghai (cold and awful)
Hong Kong
Halong Bay (Vietnam)
Vung Tau (Vetnam)
Singapore
Port Kelang (Malaysia) - all drug traffickers - mandatory death
sentence - note on landing card
Penang (Malaysia)
Phuket (Thailand)
Chennai (Madras) (India)
Cochin (India) very interesting
Mumbai (Bombay) (India)
Dubai (UAE)
Muscat (Oman)
Safaga (Egypt)
Shar El Sheikh (Egypt)
Suez  and thro the canal
Port Said - a couple of hours after dark
Lisbon (Portugal)
Vigo (Spain)
Southampton UK disembark

That is the list of places.

I realised just before we went, that with my lack of mobility I wasn't
going to be able to go anywhere, so I bought a small portable mobility
scooter. I didn't use it much in NZ because we had a car, but it was
invaluable on the ship and for going ashore, even tho the terrain in
some places was really very unsuitable.
When I can get round to it I am going to post a web page with details
of exactly where the ship berthed at the various ports and a
description of the quay etc for those in wheelchairs and with
scooters.

Peter, how long did you stay in Hong Kong and how did you like it?  My
husband won a trip there when Holiday Inn first started their reward program
and  they were most generous.  Lowerd the rewards the next year.  We flew
free and stayed at a deluxe Holiday Inn for a week.  We really enjoyed it
and had some good eating experiences. Ate Dim Sum one night.

Gwen,

Apart from NZ where we stayed for a month, most of the stops were a
single day. We loked Hong Kong (Kowloon) a lot. Although we were
bussed into Kowloon, we mainly saw only the centre which we thought
was great. Furthermore the people were very kind and helpful. For
instance, if we met a steep kurb and had to lift the scooter up it,
there was always somebody who would help without being asked. There
were also street vendors and touts representing taylors etc, but these
wern't a worry to us. We took a Star Ferry trip to the main island and
back. The ferry was scooter friendly and, being over 60, we didn't
have to pay.

Regards

Peter, we stayed in Kowloon and took the ferry to the main island.  We
thought we knew which ferry to take back so we got on the ferry and wound up
at the wrong dock.  We had to walk about a mile to get back where we started
and it started raining.  We had to stop and buy umbrellas to keep from
getting soaked.  We laughed at ourselves even that afternoon.  I couldn't
believe the crowded streets and so many people.

I can only say,we had mainly fine weather (a short shpwer in the
morning) and that we stayed on the same ferry which went back to
Kowloon. Hong Kong was wonderful after Shanghai.
