DeeTee's Daughter - 05 Apr 2007 16:05 GMT
I've only gotten to talk to Mom briefly for the past few days.  Her
spirits are good, but she tires very easily, which is to be expected.
I haven't had a conversation with her that lasted past three
minutes. :)  She has had a full day today.  She was able to both eat
something and take a shower.  Yesterday she was able to walk down the
hall and back.  If this keeps up, she might be home as soon as this
weekend!

The doctors haven't told Dad yet about the follow up chemo.  Dad & I
have been doing some research about Ovarian Cancer online and have
some suppositions.  She'll likely be on chemotherapy for 6 - 12
months, and the side effects will be unpleasant.  Exhaustion, nausea,
hair loss, etc.  But it's better to get it all and be sure.  We really
don't want this recurring.

Here are some more links for more information.

Mom says "thank you" for all the support.  She's had lots of visitors,
calls and of course the good wishes from here.  Dad said she fell
asleep twice reading them, but that she really appreciated them.

Thank you all!

thanks for this update, linda. your mom's been in my prayers and i
think of her constantly. do you know if this tumor has been the cause
of all her problems the past couple of years? she's had such a
struggle getting a diagnosis. i hope she has a full recovery. we miss
her and need her! i know you do, too.

Appreciate the update, Linda!  DeeTee will be in my thoughts and prayers,
and healing energies as well.  You and your Dad are in my prayers as well,
hang tough!

Hi Linda,
Thank-you for keeping us updated. Please tell your Mom that I will be
thinking of her and praying for her. I had not realized that her tumor
was to the extent that it was. For some reason I thought it was
non-malignant. Now I feel like I need a good slap upside the head for
not paying attention. (Tell her I said that).
My thouights and prayers will be geared toward a full recovery, and
that she is spared the nasty side effects from the chemo.

I hate cancer!!!

Linda, I would like to add my heartfelt thoughts and prayers for your
mother.  She has many friends on ASA and we want to let her know we're here
and giving support.  May she get the rough stuff over and may God sustain
and strengthen her (and you and your Dad) in the weeks ahead of you.  Nanny

Knowing her and her attitude, she'll do just fine.

A very close friend of mine was diagnosed with lymphoma in December
2005. He was given a 30% chance of surviving 6 months. It's been a year
and a half and he's entirely cancer-free. He also had very few of the
bad side effects of chemo - in fact, he'd been so very sick for so long,
that the chemo actually reduced his symptoms from the cancer and he felt
better on chemo than he had in a few years! So please let her know it
isn't ALWAYS a horrendous experience, though it certainly can be. I'm
absolutely not trying to minimize what many folks go through (my partner
went through hell and has post-chemo syndrome) but it's sometimes nice
to hear that it may not be so bad for everyone.

Tell her I love her, and if she loses her hair (not everyone does)
she'll simply ROCK the bald look. With her gorgeous features and
beautiful skin, she'll be fabulous without hair. Not just anyone can
pull it off, but I think she's one who can.

Much love,
Aim
