It's been a rough week.  Last Monday and Tuesday morn, I felt fairly good.
Then our latest weather roller coaster kicked in again.  I should have known
better than to think some recent changes were actually helping.  I made that
eternal mistake of starting to believe my hopes.  We're supposed to still
have a couple feet of snow on the ground and be dealing with cold temps, but
we're all thawed out with cold and warm fronts chasing each other across the
state so the pressure is changing a couple of times each day.  Even
non-arthritic Mike is feeling it in his joints.

And a beloved member of one of our congregations, the husband of one of the
first couples to befriend us up here, died from cancer last Monday.  There's
a lot of grieving going around and I sucked it up to work the funeral &
reception because he and his widow mean so much to us.  It wass the right
thing to do, but I wish I didn't have to pay for it for several days.  You
know how it is, a couple of feeling decent days just tease you with memories
& visions of how it *could* be.

Oh well, at least my Gators are in the Final Four (NCAA basketball
tournament, for those not following it) and there wass just a brief ray of
sunshine out there for a minute, in the midst of this next front moving in.
Oh, and I'm trying to talk my dentist into inventing a massaging dental chair
so I can treat the trigger points in my back while he's finishing up this
next crown.  He chuckled, but admitted it's a good idea.  sigh......... pain
really does get old after a while, doesn't it?

Nann,

I feel for you sweetie and I hear you. I know it is miserable and it is hard
getting your hopes up to have them dashed again about feeling better.

My heart goes out to you.
Special tender caring hugs coming your way.

Nann, I absolutely feel your pain...and we are having the warmest March on
record...But it has been damp and I guess that is why I have the ouchies so
bad... I get so sick of pain..You know with our FM sleep is not easy
anyways....and this week the pain has  been waking me up about 5:30 and even
after taking my pain pill and laying there for while I finally just have to
get up, because it hurts to lay there...
I had my son and his wife and kids over on Sunday and it was rather simple
day...I am paying...
Had a slight temp yesterday, but since my norm is 97...99 is painful..don't
know why I had a temp...
Okay...Nann..Didn't mean to jump in here on your whine..Thought I might
cheer you up ;)
Hugs and Prayers

HI Nann (((((((((((((((((((((NAnn))))))))))))))))
I am sorry about the church member that died. I really feel for you and the
weather changes.. that is no fun at all. I have seen cold fronts that can
make your hands feel as if they are about to break off. ouch I hope it wasnt
like that for you. I saw that the gators are on the final four..yea.. I do
not follow basketball much but that sure is cool.

That's one of the things I'm so abashed about at times.  I used to tease my
Mom when she was alive....she'd complain that she just knew a storm was
coming because her bones ached so, and I told her she was a walking
barometer, not really believing it.  Boy, payback is a b****, and she's up
there looking down at me chuckling every time a storm rolls through because
I'm still amazed at how accurate my "bones" and joints are in predicting
when it'll hit.  Yikes! <grin>

How awful, so many people here are dealing with personal losses like this.
You, and everyone else who've lost loved ones, are in my thoughts and
prayers each night.

Hey, maybe you could get a patent?  Might as well earn some royalties while
you suffer through the pain, huh? ;-}

I'm not questioning your experience, but I really don't understand how
this can be.  I have occasionally heard it said that this is or is not
true and I don't know how it can be.  I mean, I keep all my bones and
joints warm and wet and inside despite the weather.  When I forget my
manners and start complaining to strangers they generally say that it's
probably just the weather and tell me about some aunt who had the same
problem.  Then I think that the weather has changed in the last few days
and shut up.  But the weather always changes every few days, even here in
Arizona.

It has to do with changes in air pressure.  Think about what happens on an
airplane that drops quickly losing altitude.  The quick change in air
pressure will cause people's ears to pop, or to become painful if they
don't pop to accommodate the change in pressure.

The joint pain reaction to a drop in air/barometric pressure is most
prevalent in people with rheumatoid arthritis, but many other forms of
arthritis respond similarly, and people who have had serious injuries in
the areas of large joints like the knees will also feel the changes.  I
read that it's not just the fluid in the joints that reacts, but scar
tissue as well reacts to changes in air pressure.  Because of the
destruction to RA joints, there's a lot of scar tissue left in the joints.
Similarly, people who have sustained serious injuries will have serious
scar tissue, so will also feel the change in air pressure.

oh yeah, but it doesn't affect just joints.  I broke my arm in second grade,
just above the elbow.  No trouble with it for some time, but when I hit
puberty it would KILL me every time we had a major weather change.  I was
upset until my mom asked if that wasn't where I broke it.  Sure enough - and
the pain continued with weather changes until I got through that whole
adolescence thing.  It will still get me once in a while, but only once or
twice a year.  OTOH, the wrist I broke in 9, put me through hell with every
minor weather change that first year.  It's calmed down a bit, but the big
pressure changes coming through still flare it up.  Add to that the inflammed
joints........  well, those weather changes aren't fun!

and to add to it, I stupidly attacked some of the weeds coming up in my
garden with this warm winter on Wed.  Hey, my body could handle that better
than housework, but I was using a new tool that my body obviously wasn't
accustomed to.  Yesterday was spent on the couch, mostly listening to certain
relaxing music so I didn't exacerbate things even more by tensing up from the
pain.  A bit better today and I can actually type some this morning - and I
get to shoot up with enbrel.   Maybe my costo will even let me talk some by
the time we have to go to a dinner this evening.  I really hate this costo,
it won't even let me curl up and sob my eyes out for a while - that used to
be such an effective coping mechanism for me.

well, maybe I can talk well enough today to call for a massage appt. which
could really help in this case.
