I've been a member since october and it's just not for me.  I receive
emails packed with posts at least 2 or 3 times per day.  Unfortunately
I'm not able to unsubscribe and my emails to unsub are bounced back to
me with statement that I cannot unsub since I'm not a member.  If I
could find your homepage possibly I could edit my groups...  Can
someone please help to direct me?

this is Usenet, Joanne. It's not a web group, you are simply accessing
Usenet through google's web interface. You'll have to fix your google
groups settings, as they have nothing to do with Usenet (a very old part
of the internet).

One of the things I recommend to anyone who posts/follows Usenet groups, or
participates in any online forum or support group at all, is to get a free
e-mail account from Yahoo! or Hotmail or one of the many other sites
offering free e-mail.  If the mailbox becomes overloaded with spam after
awhile, you can cancel it and get another e-mail account easy enough, and
never have to worry about your primary private e-mail account getting
junked up.

The nice thing about Yahoo! accounts is that they use spam filters that
bump a lot of the spam automatically into a folder called "bulk" mail,
which you can just empty unread.

And many people, like some of my family, are not 'net savvy, and tend to
send me mail with attachments that take forever to download with my slow
dialup connection.  So I give them Yahoo! mail addresses as well, and
things automatically download to my Yahoo! accounts on that server, and are
there already when I log in.  Saves a ton of time, and their virus checker
does that for me as well so I don't have to worry about inadvertantly
downloading one in those attachments.  I can enjoy e-cards and photos, then
just delete them without them ever hitting my own harddrive.

Once the harvesters have snagged your address, it doesn't matter
if you unsubscribe. Your address is being sold over and over again
to all the spammers of the world.

hey joe

she's subscribed to google-groups and receiving periodic emails
containing 'x' number of posts to the group.
[ don't remember if it's one email per day of all posts, or just when
the # of posts hits a certain cutoff]
it's one of the options when you 'join' a group [their form of
'subscribe'] though google

Hi joanne,
Sorry to hear about this. sounds like you somehow have your newgroup reader
set up improperly. My son recieves this group via email. How he set it up
for that I'm not sure. He's still sleeping or I'd ask him. If you might know
or know someone who might know how to check your newsgroup preferences you
can probably get this situation corrected. I only read the group when I
choose to read. No emails involved.

You need to go to http://groups.google.com/ and click on "My Account".
Then click on "Google Alerts, Receive news and search results via email"
and change the settings so they don't email all the messages to you.

Then you can read the messages at your leisure.

I realized that - my mistake - after reading other replies
to her.  Thought she was talking about spam, spam, spam.
