Gin Soaked Raisens

Dick Adams - 10 Mar 2007 13:26 GMT I awoke this morning to an infomercial for a home remedy book. Not the one by the guy that's time in the slammer. And no I am not going to buy the book.
Will gin-soaked raisens have a positive effect on arthritis or is this just nonsense?
If they were rum-soaked raisens, I would try them without asking. But I think gin is the foulest tasting stuff I have ever put in my mouth.

It is kind of like what my father in law used to do. He would makes himself a toddy every morning of the world of honey and Old Crow. He did work for the railroad until he was 78 before he retired from the work a day world to only run his route with his home raised eggs and chickens while keeping a good sized garden going that fed nearly everyone that lived with in a mile of his place and some on the route where he sold eggs. I am sure the rum and raisins would not hurt you if taken correctly. So it goes.

Nann Bell - 11 Mar 2007 14:09 GMT rum-soaked raisins will help just as much as the gin! (that is, as much as throwing ANY alcoholic beverage in your body will help.) So, if you're gonna try it, go for a drink you like.
Personally, I'd rather drink some good rum than soak raisins in it. I'm not big on gin though. And, of course, if you're on one of those liver-threatening DMARDs, stay away from all alcohol! Otherwise, join me in a glass of this blackberry brandy we like in the winter......

I was figuring they probably wouldn't do any good, but if you ate enough of 'em, you wouldn't care so much about the pain you're in (what with being drunk and all).
Smokie Darling (Annie) - sorry, shouldn't joke about it, but rum raisins are pretty tasty

So, if you're gonna [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] >enough of 'em, you wouldn't care so much about the pain you're in >(what with being drunk and all). Ohmigawd, the last time I had a small snifter of brandy (about 2 years ago), forgetting all the meds I take, I passed out in my recliner and woke up a couple hours later drunk as a skunk with the weepies. My head was pounding, and I thought that a nightmare I'd had was real, so I called my neighbor, frightened and weeping all the while, and she, a sweet 80 year old, came dashing over afraid that I sounded like I was "done with life"! In our tiny hamlet, the story was soon doing the rounds.
Needless to say, I haven't had a shot of anything with alcohol in it, including mouthwash, since then!
Sheesh, how embarrassing. :-/

I'm lucky in that 1) I don't drink much/often, 2) when I do drink I avoid the pain pills, xanax, and sleeping pills.
I will say though, when I've taken a pain pill (Vicuprofen), I have extremely vivid dreams (not 'dirty' just very real and very detailed). I can understand waking and believing what I dreamed had "really" happened.
Smokie Darling (Annie) - my former neighbor used to check on me all the time, after I became disabled. She was so sweet and I still miss her :(

But "Drinking Rum Soaked Raisins and Coca Cola" just doesn't sound like the next #1 song on the Hit Parade. LS/MFT <g>

Before I found a doctor who was willing to treat my pain (instead of the one insisting I wasn't in pain, just depressed...), I did alot of self medicating with alcohol. Not the best way to handle it, as most RA drugs are "liver eaters", but when you can't move at all without crying...
Of course, then you hit that cycle, since alcohol is a depressant, so you are more depressed than you were in the beginning...
Wishing you relief from your pain, as soon as possible.
