Harvey R. Stone - 05 Mar 2007 14:56 GMT Here it is the 5th of March and it was in the 30's around Houston. This global warming is hellllll. Strange that Mars is loooosing some of its polar cap for the same reason. Those people on Mars should be using wind power to make their ele. and stop driving those suv's. Oooh, never mind,,,, I am just crabby because of the latest flare, I seem to be having where almost everything hurts and its hard to get out of my water bed in the morning. Already had two Aleve and now going for the prednisone and a Enbrel shot. Got to put a stop to this if I can. We forget soooooo quick how painful a flare is and how a person just can not comb their hair or other things due to the pain on our shoulders. So it goes with RA,,,,, again.

ps whine, whine
Jean - 05 Mar 2007 16:09 GMT I hear that whine Harv and if you open your windows, you'll hear mine. Houston is NOT a good place to be if you have RA/OA. It's 80 one day and 30 the next. I hate to say this but I'll be (almost) glad when summer gets here and it's 95 with 95% humidity!! LOL!

Cindy - 05 Mar 2007 17:11 GMT Harv, Sending gentle hugs and lots of prayers... I think when the weather is roller coastering...that is the worst for me in regards to flares... And that is what we have had the last couple of weeks...up and down up and down... I think I just slept crooked on my neck and shoulder last night...I am glad not to have RA on top of everything else...Lots of hugs and prayers Cindy

What has me really upset is the burn in my left hip. It has been years since I felt that and it is the reason I dug out the prednisone. Harv

Diane - 06 Mar 2007 00:17 GMT harv, back when i was on the antibiotic protocol (1995), people were expected to have major flares. it was called the herxheimer reaction or "herxing." do they still talk about that?

Kelly - 06 Mar 2007 01:15 GMT http://www.roadback.org/
I know this site has been mentioned before and they do sell their books etc (no I have no emotional or monetary interest in the group) but they do talk about the herxheimer reaction and offer information Harvey. They definitely talk about that and the generic minocycline vs non generic as well as a few other things. Might be worth trying to find some information there.
In the meantime try to ride it out and see if it helps. I do remember it takes time for it to work and in my rd's opinion it works best on mild cases. Hang in there Harvey - thinking of you.

:-) I am sure that if I contacted that site,,,,, they would say,,,,, we have been waiting for you..... LOLOL I have not been too kind to that site for the selling of information to help people. So it goes. Thanks for the thought Kelly.. Harv

Yes, I remember some of that and it makes me wonder why my RD did not talk to me about it. I am sure that this was with Tetracyclene(sp) and I do not take that. I take Minocycline which is not suppose to have the skin changing color but it still has the sun warning. I hope I am having a herxheimer reaction and when this is over,,,,, maybe things will be better. Thanks for the thought from the past. Harv
RhondaM - 06 Mar 2007 00:18 GMT Man Harv.. you sure know how to flare.. you are better at it than I am. Stop it. Seriously take it easy and I hope you can get some relief soon. I hear you about that darn weather would it make up its mind! Yesterday its 50 something today its 70. My body doesnt like this change. I know yours doesnt either. Are you still playing that xbox? [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > (((((((((((((Really Gentle hugs)))))))))))))) > RhondaM Yes, and I am very pleased with it. I do not warm it up every day but almost. It makes me wish all my 4 kids were small again so they could beat me using it like they used to. We started with the first pong game when they first came out and moved up to different things as they came out over the years. When I turn the X box off,,,, it is very quiet back there in the tv room for awhile. It is such a jump from computer games to the 360. The price of games has gone wayyyy up also but I can buy used ones down at the game shop or trade for different ones. I am just an over grown kid I guess but aren't we all still a kid on the inside???? :-) Harv
RhondaM - 06 Mar 2007 06:07 GMT I think we have every game system under the sun..for some reason my kids think we have to have everyone of them..I havent broke down and got the 360 yet or the PS3, or nintendo wii...too expensive. The used game thing is great we find some pretty good games for very very cheap at the local game exchange place.

Last week I flared big time also. I limped into my chiropractor's office for a scheduled appointment and couldn't get out of the chair in the waiting room when called until he came over and helped me stand. My knees, ankles, achilles tendons and feet felt like they were in a cider press and my hands would only close halfway. My shoulders were only tolerable when sitting in a chair with the right sized arm rests.
I started a prednisone burst and took my Humira shot the next day and can now stand and close my hands a little more. I think it helped about 20%. I'll see the doc Friday and tell him I need some help. It's not only a flare for me. I stopped Prednisone about 2 months ago and was taking only Humira and Methotrexate. It still didn't do the trick so we switched from Metho to Arava which hasn't kicked in yet (if ever). It appears that the constant rash I've had for the past few years may have been caused by the Methotrexate. It's been clearing up since I got off it except for a 24 hour flare up the day after I take the Humira.
Every day is an adventure with this disease. I think I'll go to Remicade if the Arava doesn't do the trick with the Humira.
I hope you feel better. Thumper

I hope you took the starter dose with the Arava. If not,,, it takes quite awhile for it to kick in,,, if it does.

Make choices and be dam glad we have them. It is all about control and whatever it takes to get it. Good luck with it all Thumper,,, the prednisone has me OK for now and we shall see what tomorrow brings.

Ps Arava comes in two doooose sizes which one do you take?

I just found online that an initiation dose is a 100mg tablet once a day for 3 days. I'll ask him why we didn't try that. Maybe it's not too late. I'm getting sick of these 2 month waits to see results. I've been miserable since I got off Prednisone about 5 weeks ago. Thumper

We've had the strangest winter up here, too. Very warm Dec & Jan, COLD and snowy Feb, now they're talking 40s next week, meaning massive melting and mess. Luckily for me, my aches are a fibro flare rather than arthritis and I'm hoping going back to massages will help there. But the weather has been affecting everyone around here, too.
I hope you catch a break from your flare soon.

> Harv > > ps whine, whine I hear you Harv. I just got back from a trip to the Carolinas. My aunt passed away and I also needed to visit my elderly parents. The weather was beautiful but those cold nights gave me fits. Fortunately I am on Arava and the pains were confined to my hands and fingers. Perhaps a bit of a reminder so that I don't forget what it feels like.
I have whined here too and everyone has listened and understood.
Harvey R. Stone - 15 Mar 2007 13:47 GMT > ................ >> [quoted text clipped - 10 lines] > > I have whined here too and everyone has listened and understood. Hi Bud, I hope your parents were well and happy and that yours is just a minney flare from the stress of travel. I just got through a little test to see if Arava would give me acid reflux again and it did not. You can buy it now in a generic form at a good price. I stopped it to try the anti-biotic protocol and will go back to it if the anti-bio does not do the job. Spend all the time you can with your parents and remember the good times with them. The good Lord does not promise us even one more day on this earth and the day will come when they are not with you anymore. Both mine are gone and have been for a long time and are missed. So it goes. Harv
