How to entertain

Yup you can entertain with arthritis.  Here are some ideas.

1.  divide chores within many days.  Set table one day, prepare a dish one
day, shop another.  Leave time for a nap and do dishes the next day (or
better still hire someone to do that for you - maybe a granddaughter or a
neighbor!)

2.  People are coming to see you not to be entertained - feel free to shop
at the deli, ask for potluck, prepare a crockpot meal and buy a delicious
dessert.  don't cut yourself off from friends due to pain or fatique.  Your
friends want to see you - not a spotlessly clean house or incredible meal -
if that is true they are not real friends.

3. Use paper - yes paper napkins and fancy sturdy plates are okay if that is
what it takes.

4.  Enjoy yourself - do ahead and take a nap before.  If dinner is too much
consider doing a lunch or just a tea with scones (from a bakery is okay)

Life is too hard with arthritis or another chronic disease to feel cutoff
from friends as well.  Sometimes it is easier to do things at home rather
than get out of the house and meet people.  A social life cuts down stress
and thereby cuts down on pain.

Live well with arthritis - don't be your disease.

Kelly (who yes has still been known to have 15 people for dinner even this
year with all that has happened.  Yeah for a family who all pitches in and
understands.)

Here are my ideas.

If you have family or friends coming and you know ahead of time:

1. start way ahead at cleaning if you are going to do so. Maybe one day
dust, then one day clean bathrooms, one day vacumn, etc. Remember to take
breaks. Work twenty minutes and rest twenty minutes. pace yourself.

2. there is always order out foods too that you can enjoy just as well. Make
it a pizza night, and then maybe play games or something relaxing, or just
chat.

3. What I do at times when we have the money is go to Albertsons or a place
like that and get a meat and cheese tray made up. They also have veggie
trays and fruit trays. Get some rolls to make sandwiches out of. Put out the
mayo and mustard and you got yourself some food to enjoy.

4. If I know ahead of time, I usually do all I can before hand so that I am
rested for the day that company arrives. Then Jim will take care of whatever
is left to do for me.

5. For those of you that have helpful hubbies or children, incorporate them
into helping.
