Hi group,
Thanks so much for your prayers for my oldest sister. I can' t
remember the dates already as it seems so much has happened, but Iris
had her revision surgery and then two subsequent debridements. for the
first time in 18 months she appears to be free of infection. Wonderful
news! She is now getting around with crutches, as compared with total
non weight bearing as before. Things seem far more positive.

There is a downside. I reported earlier that my other sister's husband
had a ct because of an abnormality in his chest. His reprot turned out
to be not so good. He may have thymus cancer, which would be similar
to lymphoma. For most people the thymus is productive during childhood
and adolescence and during that time it produces lymphocytes. By the
time most people are 21, the thymus has disappeared. It seems as
though in some individuals that does not happen, and tumors can
develop. It seems like this is what has happened to my B-I-L. We don't
know the extent of the disease right now, he is scheduled to see a
thorassic surgeon very soon (2 days I think). I imagine we will find
out more from  the biopsy. The prognosis is generally good for this
type of cancer, but as with any, it depends on stage and grade.

Prayers are gratefully accepted.

(It seems like we get through one crisis and another one comes up).

MY thoughts and prayers for all who are suffering right now. I can
empathise with what you are going through.

It seems like a bad patch for many right now, and we are not even that
far into the new year.

rose, first of all, great news on your sister, and certainly a long
time coming. i hope she continues to recover smoothly.
second, i'm sorry about your brother-in-law. i hope they caught
whatever is going on early and he can make a full recovery.
i know what a hard time i'm having dealing with my own sisters' woes
as we wait for the imminent passing of her husband. I imagine you're
going through a similar time with two sisters struggling. take care of
yourself, please. hugs,

diane

Such wonderful news for Iris!  I'm keeping her on the prayer list for a while
longer though.  We need to make sure this infection is gone *for good*.

Prayers for your BIL - may it be very treatable and not a problem down the
road.

Rose,
For a change a great bit of news for your sister (and for you!  How great to
be weight bearing.  Give her my best - she will make it this time around!

Fingers crossed on your brother in law though.  Lymphoma thank goodness is
one of the cancers that they treat very successfully so I have my fingers
crossed.  We do know that BC is one of the best provinces with cancer care
and follow up - I am burning candles that he is one of the ones that gets
that incredible care and diagnostic treatment.

In the meantime spring break is coming so pace yourself.  you might be
needed for support for your sisters and some downtime for you!  Wish I could
take you to Disneyland with us - yeah like that would be downtime.  These
girls are more excited than 2 kids - at 24 and 21 you would think they would
have more decorum - not that I am not excited of course too!

The doctor's office though won't start my rituxan until I am home on the
21st.  Smart move I guess but of course that delays everything.  We are
trying to up my mtx to 7.5 mg and see what happens in the meantime.  The
theory is I might not develop antibodies to the drug with the higher dose.
It appears that is what might have happened with the orencia.  They are
being pretty cautious with me - understandably.

So glad to hear some good news.  What a long year for her! and for you.

Kelly

Thank-you Kelly,
Yes things seem to be going well for Iris. I know that she will do
well if the infection is unde control She is one of those people who
is always busy, so motivation won't be a factor. :)
As far as the brother in law, his sister died of lymphoma so that
makes the situation more frightening, plus my sister had breast
cancer. He actually had a bowel cancer too, about 15 years ago. That
makes the whole thing seem more critical right now. Also he is at the
stage where he has just had the diagnosis and is only speculating on
the treatment. But we are all hopeful of a good recovery.

I would loooooove to go to Disneyland.

Have a great time!! You deserve a nice bit of respite from all the
(fill in the blanks) you have been through!

Thanks donnaG,
His name is Harold.

I appreciate the prayers. He is the one whose son was killed in a car
accident in 2001.They have had a lot to deal with. Who knows, maybe
the grief of that, plus my sister getting breast cancer 8 months later
precipitated some of this.
