My novel was released on 13 December 2006 (in the US) and I had to
restrain myself from handing out my bookmarks right away because I
thought I would be wasting my effort and money, because my book wouldn't
be available in Australia yet.

Then last week, I received two copies from my publisher's branch office
in Australia.  I was thrilled to have my hardcover books in my hand.  I
started handing out my bookmarks.  The lady at the postoffice counter (a
casual worker) took a look at my bookmark and said, "I'll buy a copy."
Then she showed me the novel she was reading -- a bodice-ripper.  I
explained my book is not yet available and asked how long she would be
working at that postoffice.  She said till the end of January.

I emailed my publisher and was told my author's copies had been mailed
on 19 December but they didn't think my books would arrive till early or
mid Feb -- they must have sent it via sea-mail!  So I contacted the FS
branch office here and ordered 20 copies.  I was told my book is out of
stock -- less than a week after they arrived?  Sheesh!  I was also told
the new order would be airfreighted in, but it would take about 3 weeks
for them to arrive.

Afraid to lose my "customer"  I decided to "sacrifice" one of my two
books in hand!  I was so thrilled to make my first sale yesterday that I
gave the lady a 20 percent discount (based on the prices listed in our
local bookstores)!

Now, if only it is as easy to sell the rest of my books!  <G>

Thanks for listening.

How exciting! What's the title? I may want to look for it.:)

It's not spamming if somebody asks you for it.:P

Thank you all for the warm reception of my news.  I'm not trying to sell
my book here.  In fact, I've made an offer to donate a copy to our ASA
"circulating library" I remember someone had organised this, a year or
so ago?

My publisher sells to libraries, so it is possible your local library
might hold a copy of my book.  If not, put in a request for it.  I don't
wish any of you to be out of pocket on account of my book, though I
would LOVE to have you read it and perhaps give me some feedback!  I
guess I'm not much of a salesperson.  It is hard to toot my own horn!!!

The book title is "A Family Of Strangers"  ISBN  9784145438

You can read more about it from my website.  :)

You shouldn't get me started about my book!  Really, for like a new
mother, I can go on and on and on about my novel!  But I make an effort
to resist.  Truly!!!

This is what I have written for the synopsis:

<<<This novel took me 30 years to research and write. I expect it to
entertain as well as inform readers as they go back into history, to a
time when Australia is founded as a penal colony.

My novel opens in 1793, and Kate O'Neal is shipped out to Botany Bay to
serve her 7-year sentence for castrating her employer's son who had
raped and brutalised her.  She has to survive a year-long voyage from
England and then face a harsh life in a penal colony teeming with men,
where convict women are treated as commodity.

Determined to survive, Kate chooses to become Lt Kendrick's convict
mistress, and when he loses her in a game of cards, Capt Spencer's
"honeypot".

Life is not easy for Kate who is vulnerable at 15 years old.  As a
convict in a strange new land so far from home, she is virtually at
everyone's mercy. The core of her support comes from a group of friends,
her "family of strangers".  Together, they battle the odds to forge new
lives for themselves.>>>

You can read a review of my book from The Star newspaper in Malaysia:

I'm stopping here now, before your eyes get that glazed look.  :)

Hi Splodge,

Thanks for reminding me.

The publishing industry is doing an overhaul of its ISBN numbers
changing from 10 digits to 13 digits (there are not enough 10 digit
numbers to go around anymore) so my "new" ISBN number is 9781594145438
-- the last digit is 8 not 1.  Indeed if you look up my old ISBN number,
my book will not show up, especially in Australia and South Africa.  It
still works in the US bookstores.  Just in case, I'm changing the ISBN
where I can, to make sure my book shows up when the new ISBN number is
called! :)

I'm overwhelmed that so many of you are going to read my book, and I
feel bad that you have to pay to read it. :(

If you would like to have my autographed bookplate and bookmark, let me
have your snail mail address (back channel), and I'll airmail them to
you.

Thank you all for your support. :)
