Another update on my family:
Iris, my eldest sister is going tomorrow gor her tkr revision. For
those that may not remember, she had her initial tkr in September of
2005. What followed was a year of infections, and for most of that
time she was on IV abx. This fall the prosthesis was removed, and she
had a 'puck' put in. She has had that now for almost 3 months I think.
Initially her surgery was scheduled for December 29th, and then it was
put back to the 16th of Jan. Then it was put back to the 18th. So
tomorrow may be the day. She now has a bladder infection though that
she has been receiving IV abx for in the hope of clearing it sooner so
that the sugery can go ahead.
What I would like to happen is for her infection to be sufficiently
treated so that they can do the surgery and that she has a good
outcome. She has basically been immobilized for 16 months. She was
never able to walk independently after her initial surgery, and has
been non weight bearing for the past 3 months. The docs already told
her that she will have a very long rehab- that it will take up to a
year to regain her mobility.
Sylvia the middle sister had a lung CT, and it looks suspicious as
though she could have mets from the breast cancer that she had in 2001
or was it 2002. She is the one that lost her son. I don't think she
has ever recovered sufficiently from the loss of her son and having
breast ca (if you know what I mean). I basically think she is
chronically depressed, and that, added to the physical problems
exascerbates the rather serious health issues she has. I think in some
respects cancer can be opportunistic, and when you don't have the
resources to fight, it can grow and flourish. I hope it is not ca, but
rather something else that is curable, but for now she will require
further tests.
So I would appreciate your prayers for my sisters.

Thanks everyone. Iris ended up not having the surgery due to her
bladder infection and has been rescheduled to next week.
Sylvia may go into the hospital in the morning.

prayers for Iris and Sylvia will be ongoing. please keep us posted.
and I do know what you mean about ca - and I tend to agree with you. taking
it further, cancer occurs when the body doesn't kill off malformed cells and
we all know how stress and/or depression can mess with the immune system....
