Our place was burglarized and severely ransacked Thursday. The neighbor
found it and called me at work. He also secured 2 of 4 cats in his place
until we got things secure. We found 1 other cat when we got home and
finally found sheldon many frantic hours later. We're missing a mac
laptop and a lot of electronics and dvds. We've got two broken windows
and a horrendous mess. They broke stuff just to be hateful when they
didnt find anything very valuable. Its a big mess. No insurance. It had
lapsed a month ago, but it wouldn't have covered what we lost anyway.
All our stuff is/was too omore stuff was destroyed than taken. T is
between jobs so extrabad timing. The "bonus" - it appears to be a hate
crime. It was extremely violent. Extremely.
We're getting things put back together, and our house is actually
looking some semblance of clean and nice again. As our friend TG said
last night, "the violent energy is all gone." He's the neighbor who
discovered what had happened. We're pretty sure he actually interrupted
them as he went to take out his trash, and they heard him and booked out
the front door as he was dumping his recyclables. They had clearly
started on the back rooms, but not gotten to anything, and the recycle
bin is RIGHT outside the bedroom so when anyone is out there it's loud
and they'd easily have gotten spooked.
We're so fortunate that he wasn't hurt, and that the cats are fine
(although still scared - Sheldon spends the entire time hiding if we
leave the house. When we're there he's ok.) We lost some stuff, and a
lot was destroyed, but it could have been SO MUCH WORSE.
Our landlord is awesome, and has asked us to research what security we
want (we've decided on "shatter-proof" laminate on the windows as well
as a security coating to prevent visibility and tempered glass. It will
be hard to get in again. Oh, and an alarm.) Landlord doesn't want to
lose us, but he wants us safe and comfortable. T bought a heavy axe
handle, and it's been christened "Auntie Maim." And if you get that
joke, you're ahead of a lot of folks...
It was also a good excuse to go through all our stuff and purge. So we did.
So, all in all we'll survive. But it's been a really rough few days.

I am soooo sorry to hear your news, and also sorry that there is so
much hatred in this world that people would terrorize others in htat
way. That makes me feel just sick inside.
I understand about the traumatization to cats. After I had the
intruder in my house a few years ago, Milo would not come out from his
hiding place for several days, and once when Quigley got startled he
stayed under the deck for a whole day. Poor kitties.
The timing of this incident sucked. Not that any time is good, but the
fact that your insurance lapsed makes it especially bad.

So sorry to hear you were the victims of such a cruel crime...We were broken
into once and there is no other feeling like it...It leaves you so ....I
can't even describe it...But for them to put so much hate into it...I can
only imagine that I would be terrified...
Lots of hugs and prayers

I didn't share that here; wouldn't want to without your consent, but I'm
glad you did.
I'm just still so relieved nobody was hurt, and all the cats were rounded
up.
Hugs you both,

My condolences.. I know exactly how you feel. Many years ago, my now
ex-sister in law had a few of her "buddies" come in and rob us because
I allowed my brother to move in so that he'd have a home and could get
custody of his daughter which she was living with us as well. My husband
was out of work as well and was out looking for work. He was on his way
home and just pulled down the street and noticed a blank Uhaul truck parked
in front of our home. Sad part about us, is that we lived in a gated
community
and they knew someone else who called them in at the security station. My
husband chased them out got the plate # and told the security gate guy but
they simply told him to call the police. which we did, they came took a
report
and about 2 weeks later they got a search warrent for my SILs place..
thankfully
the officer that took our report called us, told us to meet him there and
told us
to go in and get everything taht was ours FIRST, otherwise it would be taken
as evidence in a drug trafficing bust... we only recovered about 10% of what
they took... the worst was a video camera that I had 5yrs worth of tapes in
of my daughter growing up when we were living in Hawaii while my husband
was in the service... Took me many years to get over that because that was
when I had my accident and so doped up that I barely remember much and
those tapes were my ownly memories. They ended up getting over $3K in
tools of my husbands that he used for work that we had to replace.. No
insurance
either.. They also got all of our firearms, I'm just glad they were too
stupid
to grab the ammo for them otherwise I might have lost my husband that day
as well when he drove up on them.
Just wanted you to know you're not alone... Don't feel bad... it will take
you
time to get over being violated like that..

I am so sorry this happened to you. We were burglarized a few years
ago, but all they did was take stuff, no destruction.
It will take a little while for you to get your sense of security back,
but it sounds like your landlord is going to be good about helping you
with that.
Come here & talk anytime you need. Pet the critters for me.

I am so sorry to hear of this. How can people be so cruel? I had my car
broken into once and I felt so violated. I can only imagine what you are
feeling. I am glad your landlord is willing to put security in for you.
I will keep you all in my prayers (including your kitties). {{{{{{{AIM}}}}}}

Oh Aim and T, I am so sorry this had to happen to you.
Glad you were not there when it happened though. It is hard telling what
they would have done to you both.
I am glad to hear your landlord is trying to make it safer for you. He is a
good man.
I hope T can find something soon. Jim is not working and we know how that
goes.
You both take care and try to settle down after all that. I know it will be
hard to do so.

That's just awful! I'm so glad you found the cats and that they were not
injured. Who knows what those jerks could have done to them. Do the
police have any leads as to who might have done this?

Hope they catch the cretins and I hope you have faith that those kind of

you got hit by a couple of the worst, unfairly to be sure.:-(

I'm so sorry you all are having to go through this, especially with the
financial complications and the vandalism. Theft is one thing, destruction
is another. Hate crimes are just too reprehensible. Thank goodness you
have such a great landlord and a good neighbor. I hope there is no lasting
trauma for either you two humans or the furkids. (and no reason to ever use
Auntie Maim! I do like the name!)
