Ok, so either this is truly bizarre or I'm out of touch, I'll leave it
to you guys to judge.  DH and I were in the grocery store yesterday buying a
few items.  When we were in the pharmacy area, he was trying to find ear drops,
so I was patiently standing there, looking at the products while waiting for
him to make his selection.  Next to the feminine infection treatments, condoms
and other similar items was...  a menopause test kit.  WTF?  Do we really need
a home test kit for menopause?
And I ask this seriously, as a 43-year old woman who may have menopause
on her horizon, but it never occurred to me to get TESTED for it.  When I
pointed it out to DH, he dryly (and rhetorically) asked where the puberty test
kits were.

When I was at that stage, my GP told me about some tests for hormone
levels that can vary depending where you are in perimenopause.

Don't get me wrong, if you're feeling what might be symptoms, I fully
understand going to a doctor to ask about treatments.  But a home test kit?
What exactly does that gain, other than to tell you you might want to go to the
doctor?

Or, if what you are feeling is perimenopause (and not pregnancy), then it's
not something you want to go to the doc about if you wouldn't be inclined to
doing HRT.

Not to mention the exclusionary value. There are other conditions than
menopause that can cause, say, hot flashes.
