i've written about my sis with MS and her husband with lung cancer
before and you guys have been so supportive. her husband fell the other
day and tests show the cancer's spread to his brain and he has 6-12
weeks. this will be the second husband my sister has lost. she's so
strong, but today she finally broke down with me on the phone. i live
about 600 miles away and just don't know the right time to go be with
her/him (she says "later.")  he's been in the hospital the past few
days, which means she's alone at night. she hired someone to stay with
her the first few nights (she can't even get her legs into bed, so when
she's alone, she has to sleep in a recliner), but says she can't afford
it. anyhow, the hope is that he will come home, possibly even tomorrow,
with hospice involvement. does anyone have an idea of how much care
hospice can provide in NJ and if it will extend to her? they are going
to need much more than the average patient and care-giver.
please pray for my sister's strength and for the last few weeks of
michael's life to be as easy as they can be. his grown children, some
of whom haven't spoken to him in years, are rallying around him, thank
god.
thanks for listening,

diane

Oh Diane, what a mess - too much heartbreak for one family.  I don't know
the situation in the states for health care I am afraid - wish I could help
there.  My prayers are with you and the family.  Glad to hear the children
are speaking again though - that does make things easier in a way.  I would
think though she is going to need you towards the end but especially for the
week or so after Diane - you will need to keep your strength for then.  The
planning and hugs after are going to be so needed.

Prayers going out.  Words are just so..... in cases like this.

((((((((((((((((((for all of you))))))))))))))))))  such a very difficult
and heartbreaking time, for all of you.  my heart goes out to you and
prayers are being offered, for all of you.

you and your sister sound so close, diane.  i think i would ask the hospice
attendants to let you know when his transition is nearing within a week or a
few days, if she doesn't ask you to come sooner.  she'll need your strength
and love as he departs.  this is so hard.

can you directly call hospice for her area in nj?  that might be the best
way to have your concerns for your sister addressed and your questions
answered before it gets too difficult.  i wish i knew the answers to convey
them and make it easier on you.

lovingly,
kate

Diane, what a sad state of affairs. The only thing I can offer is compassion and
the wish that you and your family have the strength to deal with this. Hugs from
Canada.

Diane, what a terrible situation your sister is in.  I'm sorry the cancer
has spread to his brain, but since that has happened, I pray his passing
will be easy on him and on her.  I can imagine your indecision about when
you should go; it's a hard choice to make.
I'm not sure about hospice in NJ, but I surely hope they will help her also
while they are looking after him  Good that his children are showing
support.  All of you will be in my prayers.

Diane,
I send you and your sister my prayers, I know how hard losses can be, losing
my own husband this past September has not been an easy thing and for your
sister to have to endure this twice is  so much. In these times we think we
can't get thru but we are given strength and we make it though.
I hope that you and your sister will find the strength that you both will
need and feel the encouragement of others who are thinking of you and your
families.

I did google New Jersey and Hospice and got a site.  You might try Diane -
might answer some questions but the site i got was more for not at home
assistance.

thank you, all. and becky, i was so touched that you wrote--how
beautiful that you can give support now after what you've been
through--you really understand.

i've decided to fly up there tomorrow and stay for a few days to try to
get the hospice thing sorted out and see what else i can do. i just
can't stand not being there. thank goodness for frequent flyer miles!

thanks again for being there,

diane

I'm so sorry, Diane, for what your family is going through - makes my own
problems seem minor.  Nanny
