Just got my computer back-early thank goodness. So I have a question
of all of you enbrel people. Last time I actually got enbrel was in
August-my RD gave me several months when my insurance sent belly-up.
So I just got enbrel from Kaiser and just gave myself a shot. When did
they change the setup? I am on 25mg 2x weekly and mix it (rather than
the pre-mixed). I found this harder to dissolve, harder to get the
bubbles out and i am having a site reaction which seems strange since i
have been on enbrel (haven't taken it for 19 days) for 2.5 years and
didn't even have a site reaction initially.
I suppose I can call the enbrel line and find out when they changed
everything but thought someone here might know-

I am on the same 25mg 2x weekly schedule and haven't noticed any change.
Since you changed suppliers to Kaiser, it is possible that it was mishandled
somewhere before you received it, e.g., it may have been exposed to a higher
temperature somewhere in the distribution chain. I had a temperature
problem when I initially received Enbrel from a middle distribution
supplier, and changed to a local pharmacy where Enbrel comes to them
directly from Amgen via overnight shipping. I've had no problems since I
made this change about three years ago.

melinda, they are offering a couple of new injection methods. I know
one of them is for folks with grip problems. Its a pen size plunger.
you should call and get the method you like best. Hope the enbrel gets
you back some energy.

M, I have been on the same formula you are for years now. I haven't noticed
any changes. I wonder if it got warmed up at some point.
Johnie is right about the new injection pen, but if you're already having
site pain and swelling, they may not be for you. The new pens are premixed,
so have a preservative that's causing a lot of folks some discomfort. If
you're already squicky about doing injections (like I am), it may be enough
to make you not want to do it.
I hope your next injection is more comfortable, and I am so glad you got
your computer back.:)
Hugs,
Kelly C.

The 50mg...whether in the premixed syringe or the injection pen, has a
preservative thet hurts a LOT and keeps on hurting -- but I have neuropathy.
We've found that not getting air into the water syringe at all helps
with not causing bubbles in the first place; but if we get 'em a few minutes
of gently swirling the mixture settles them down nicely. I say 'we' because
with these hands if I tried to inject I could inject someone or something
else..so Normie does 'em on me.
My thighs are absatively COVERED with bruisings but I ain't worried
'bout it.
HTH!
Hugs from Rosie

I am in the UK. Used to use the 25 mg dry vial with water and then
changed to 50 mg dry with water. 50 mg produces more bubbles, but if
you let it stand for half an hour they come out of solution.
We don't have ready mix (except concrete) here at present.
Happy NY.

I was told to phone if the solution would not dissolve properly and not to
use it (might be why a site reaction). The bubbles I was told were not an
issue - I use to mix it, have my shower or bath and then do my shot and by
that time the bubbles would have settled a bit. I would check M. The other
thing is if the alcohol wipe area had not dried completely the site reaction
might be from that - I did have problems originially from that.
Hope your Christmas went okay. Was thinking of you - received my card when
I got home from holidays and it cheered me up considerably. This will be a
good year - for both of us!

I always wonder about the enbrel, I have heard that the 50 pre mixed should
burn, but so far over a year since I have been taking it I have only felt a
slight burn once, seems weird. I was given the pen by mistake but told them
I wanted the needle instead. The most problem I have is getting the needle
in, I am dehydrated a lot and I guess that makes a difference.

THanks for all the responses. This was just a design change with a
shorter, thicker barrel and a little twist off cover to the adilutent
barrel instead of the rubber pop off one. Just few design changes but
then the failure to mix well was very strange. There hasn't been a
design change since I've been on enbrel and the old one worked
perfectly well for me so it didn't seem like an inprovement. It was
also so strange getting a site reaction
