My wife has had a persistant cough since summer and I am wondering if her
weekly Enbrel injections for RA are the cause. If so, would there be much
use in asking her Dr to switch her to Humira, Remicade or ?
Thanks for any advice.

Steve, this is a question for her doc. I'd get to the root cause of the
cough first before switching meds. I doubt enbrel is the problem, but i
don't know that for a fact. The other drugs also suppress the immune
system, so if that was the problem with enbrel, it probably would be
with the other drugs as well.
it's quiet on asa on the weekend, but i'm sure others will be along
with their thoughts soon.

Thanks for the reply Diane. Took my Wife to her RD today and a few questions
later we left with the suspicion that her recently started Lisinopril blood
pressure medicne is the reason she's been coughing. We'll get her a new med
for that and try again.
Thanks

Steve (and Enbrel'd lurkers),

Isn't it standard practice, if an infection is seen, to recommend
suspending Enbrel for a short time?

I doubt if switching to an alternate TNF blocker is appropriate.  In
fact, one of the virtues of Enbrel is exactly that it does clear the
system quickly so you can better fight infections.

That was the odd thing about my Wifes cough. She went to her regular Dr
twice because of it and was told that she did not have an infection so no
antibiotics were prescribed. As soon as I mentioned Lisinopril (her BP
medicne) to her RD though, he said "well no wonder you're coughing!". I'm
only dissapointed that the Dr who prescribed the Lisinopril wasn't aware of
this very common side effect from it.
Thanks

It's an ACE inhibitor, pretty common category, I do see cough listed
as a side-effect, though not at any huge number.  There are lots of
alternatives, though, hope they work out for your wife quickly!

Depends on where you look. Rx reports can be all over the place from my
experience.
The 1st two side effects listed here
http://www.rxlist.com/drugs/drug-144279-Lisinopril-Dietary+Supp+%2310+Oral.aspx?
drugid=144279&drugname=Lisinopril-Dietary+Supp+%2310+Oral&pagenumber=6

are exactly what my Wife has been dealing with (coincidentally since she
began taking the medicine)
Thanks
