Hi everyone - great news.  There is a Santa Claus and she works for Bristol
Myers Squibbs.  They are the company that makes Orencia or Abatacept.  They
are sending my med to my pharmacy, booking my infusion and best of all for
the time being while approval is going through the system (which could take
a bit) it is covered 100%.  I can't tell you how great that makes me feel.
We were spending RRSP money until our house sold and goodness knows how long
that is going to take.

So maybe even as early as next week.  There really is help out there
sometimes.  I had my worst night last night and honestly the pain and worry
made me wonder if everything was worth it.  On top of all this the bullying
on the newsgroup almost made me pull out again last night but I am hear for
support and that doesn't do anyone any good.  So this is a sign of hope for
everyone.

Merry Christmas - maybe my year has turned for the better.  Now to stay
healthy long enough to get the first 3 infusions under way.  Maybe a cute
face mask.

Oh, Kelly, my fellow Canadian. That IS good news. Let's hope you get the
medicine quickly and that it works fast.

As for the bullying, I don't understand Harvey's problem. He took issue with me
once saying I shouldn't be commenting on something medical. That after I was a
nurse for forty years. I think I may put him in my kill file because no one
needs to read the stuff he writes.

So you look after YOU, and know that people here really care and are glad for
your good news.

And Melinda, I have heard so many good things about you, and although I don't
feel I "know" you, so many people can't be wrong, so you hang around too,
please. Anything you have said always sounds pretty good to me.

Wow, what a great Santa!  I'm really happy for you! If I could dance I'd
do a dance of joy...but with my bones, it's not a good idea, LOL :))  So
I'll tap my toes :)))

Hugs,
Carole :)

people sometimes; so happy that it is coming to you.  May your Christmas be
as wonderful as you want it to be, and may you soon be feeling well again.

It is rainy so hard the ditches are overflowing and the wind is due to pick
up anytime.  Suspect we will again be out of power tonight (we were out for
6 hours yesterday).  It is also close to freezing - go figure - this is
Victoria.  Okay Joan you can gloat - we deserve it here in daffodil land.

Pat is off to Vancouver to take Marc (youngest) and his girlfriend for
dinner and visit friends.  I just did not have the energy to go with him.
Glad I didn't as the ferries will be a windy mess!

Will talk to you later.  This was a surprise I really wasn't expecting.

Thanks everyone - you know my win is really yours too.  Any hope in this
lousy disease affects us all.  I know all of you keep me going through the
tough times.

Not gloating at all. This is not good weather in many places. Losing power is
not good. You especially need daffodils and sunshine, I really think bad weather
actually increased pain, or at least our tolerance. We've had a lot of rain in
Ontario this year, and a few days ago the sun came out and I suddenly thought,
"I feel better." So I wish you sunny skies as well as the new medicine. :-)

I got my cooler and instructions for carrying in the med to the doctors from
the pharmacy today by Fedex.  I guess this really is going to happen!  Still
pinching myself today - we started this whole process for a new med in June
for goodness sake.  I went looking at shoes that might fit yesterday - I
might actually be able to walk on these feet without screaming soon.  It
will work.

Thanks for the prayers, hugs and wishes everyone.  Honestly I don't know
what I would do without everyone on this group.  Well almost everyone.

but sometimes they drive me bonkers too.

No sweet things please!  Last night I ate a whole bag of licorice allsorts
for dinner - ouch!  I know better but it was a great binge.  I try so hard
to stay out of that stuff.  Tonight I took my inlaws for dinner because we
were all bored and cold sitting in the dark in our respective houses - had a
great souvlaki dinner and ate all the vegetables - and then came home and
had 2 pieces of fruit.  Much more balanced.

So I will bring pita and humous tonight to put in some fibre in my diet
(plus the garlic will stop the vampires and colds!)

Oh and a cyber hot rum as we are suppose to wake up to a little snow
tomorrow.

Thanks for the party Rose - just knock loudly people - I have the music a
little loud.

BANG, BANG (on the door)

I've got a crockpot of sweet 'n sour meatballs with chunks of purple onion
and green, yellow and red peppers. They disappear fairly quickly at parties
so I made a double batch.

I'm very excited to hear how the new med works for ya Kelly. Hope it kicks
in right away and works miracles.

I'm bringing my yummy vegetarian barbecue beans!  It's one of our standards
that I make many times through the year.  Mike gets irritated with me when I
take it to potlucks because we never have leftovers!  lol

(while you're at it Kimmy, I think I'd love that meatball recipe.  But if I
take it to a potluck here, it'll probably be considered another of my
"exotic, southern" recipes!)

Happy to pass it on Nann -

You need a bag of frozen meatballs (NOT italian, I buy either homestyle or
swedish) I don't know weight-wise what size it is but there's a smaller pkg
that runs around $3 and then the size I buy is around $6)

1 red pepper
1 green pepper
1 yellow pepper
1 large purple onion
1 bottle sweet 'n sour sauce (Kikkoman)
or two of small bottles of LaChoy

Cut the onion and peppers into chunks. Layer meatballs and veggies in
crockpot (I use my 4 qt.) dump the sauce over the top, set it to low and
cook till the veggies are soft. (I usually cook 'em about 7 hours so the
flavors blend)

Really easy and even the kids eat 'em!

sounds good and I can always use another easy recipe!  And I just recently
splurged and bought a larger oval crockpot (on double sale) to supplement my
ancient, smaller, round one.

Meanwhile, GFS has good deals on frozen meatballs.......

That sounds good! I just got a crockpot at Value Village for $6 with a
removeable dish so I can put it in the dishwasker :) So I'll give this a
try!

Is there a difference in taste between LaChoy and Kikkoman?  I also make
my own sweet n sour sauce. There was a Chinese takeout near where I used
to live in NYC and I wish I could get the recipe for their sweet n sour
sauce....it was the best I've ever had in my whole life!

Carole,

I really can't taste a difference between the two sauces, I usually go with
the one that's less expensive. And yes - I've used my own sweet 'n sour
sauce - the bottled sauces are just easier ;)

I have a recipe for Sweet & Sour Pork that my mother got when she took a
Community Ed Chinese cooking class from a teacher who was from southern
China.  Among other things, she learned there is a difference between
northern and southern China sweet & sour sauces.  That recipe is too time
consuming to make often, but it has totally ruined me for restaurant
versions, at least in the areas I've been living in, wiht no real Chinatowns.

I've never thought of just trying the sauce separately, without all the
hassle of preparing the meat, though.  I'll have to consider doing that.

Hey Rose,

Do you ever go to any of the Scottish Gaelic events in Victoria?  My
friend's group sang for one a few weeks ago. I was under the weather so
didn't even attempt to attend. They are playing in Vancouver in February
so I'll probably head up north for that.  Because of my illness I got a
grant to take Scottish Gaelic through the college in Scotland on the
Isle of Skye. It's great as I download the soundfiles and workbook pages
and then have a phone class once a week. It keeps me busy and I am
having fun learning the language :)

Rose is up at Merritt.  She is only wishing she was out of the snow and down

There is supposed to be a Scottish gaelic choir in Vancouver and another
one in Victoria.  I haven't quite figured out how to get to Victoria
yet. I know I can take a ferry from Fairhaven, but I'd need my car as I
can't walk long distances with my CHF. Someone told me that once I get
across the border there is a turn off to Victoria, but I don't know if I
can take the car going that way.  I'd love to see both cities as they
look beautiful!  I'm also hoping to get to the 2010 Olympics :))))

send some of that weather down to norhtern Michigan, please!  We've been
above freezing and raining for over a week now.  Most of the snow has melted,
everything is brown and dreary and the basement is leaking.  this is April
weather for us!  This native Floridian finds herself once again wishing it
would get colder and snow!

heh, I grew up with GREEN Christmasses (we even re-wrote that well-known
Irving Berlin song.....).  Had one white Christmas in North Carolina in early
arthritis days, not again for many years.  But still, I prefer snow to cold
rain!

I find living with the snow to be much easier in a rural area - as long as
you live on a road that gets plowed!  It was a royal pain in Boston because
there was nowhere for the snow to go.  Here we have endless fields.  And we
lucked into a wonderful deal on superb snow boots - not at all attractive,
but we're in rural, tromping through the snow country.  Practicality reigns!
