I can't say how much I appreciate having a teenage son at times like this.
We are in the 12" belt of snow with this latest storm that ended about 1pm
this afternoon (central time). Mike and I spent the morning putting new
paneling up in his room. Schools were closed and the University, for the
first time in at least 10 years, closed!!
I was aghast. I was also grateful as it saved me a vacation day.
So, Mike got the job of shoveling us out. I've shoveled snow for the last
50 yrs. of my life and my days of heavy shoveling are over. I help a little,
but don't feel comfortable trying to do it anymore. Of course, I have to
teach him that life isn't over 'cause he has to get through the snow or we
don't get out of here. But, he did do it with minimal complaining for which
he gets big points.
If you don't already know......I  HATE SNOW! I HATE COLD!
Born and raised in the upper Midwest. Go figure.
jonnie, a little opening here........buddy........please?.........

It was very pretty but I was also glad that I'm retired :) If I had to
try to get to work in it, I'm sure it would not have been so pretty. I
had stocked up at the food store last Saturday, so when the storm hit, I
had soups, tea, hot chocolate, etc. and I just enjoyed the beauty of it
all :-)

It's mostly melted now and today is so lovely that I have my window open
to let in fresh air. Bellingham is a super place to live :)

melted????  MELTED??!?!?!

I came home from church today and said, "oh yeah, that's what I do after
church this time of year - shovel the driveway some more!"  (I walk to
church, Mike shovels just enough to get his car out as he leaves fairly early
for the other service.)

I finally got the minivan in the garage and shoveled for a half hour before
my costo started screaming at me.  sigh..........  I'm not ready for this
again, I'm a Florida girl!  It will seem better once I get my mind to shift
gears to winter.

LOL, yes we are mostly melted :)  I'm FREE again :))  I was getting
cabin fever staying in. I went out today and it was lovely!

You need to adopt a stud muffin, Nann! :-)

Yup,
We're still buried here as well. No temps above freezing since the snow. As
to mind shift? It's true. Usually have a couple of months of gradual
worsening of temps before winter comes for real. Not this year! Whole week
of 60's (F) and boom! below zero with a foot of snow.

Easy on that kind of work.   I know you do not want to hear it but they find
lots of people with a shovel in their hand in the snow and forget all about
finding a stud muffin to do the job....  Fusssss at the better half for not
taking care of you better... Sometimes men just do not think as they should.
Soooo change the way he thinks.

Apt warning, Harv!  Fortunately for me, I do gardening and some exercising
with weights throughout the year; that leaves me in better shape for
shoveling.  Mike and I do share the shoveling, except when I just can't do it
and he takes it all on.  The reality is his work means he CAN'T do it all -
sometiems we have major storms when he's down south at a meeting and I need
to make it possible for him to get in the drive on his return!  We both think
of it as our winter exercise.

We're just lucky we don't live on the west side of the state - they're
expected to get 6-12" of lake effect this afternoon and overnight.  We'll
only get 2-3", or so they say.  Got 2-3" yesterday when we were supposed to
get none, so we'll see!

Then again, Mike is Kris Kringle right now in the local production of
"Miracle on 34th Street" and I keep telling him he needs to get those
reindeer in to take us around.  LOL

It is good to read that you work out a little.   It will add years to your
life but what we have keeps us from doing what we want to do sometimes.
Aaaah, an actor in the family,,,,, great fun....

poor Gary................  This was another of those weird storms that had us
in the 6" snow belt because the major snows passed SOUTH of us.  That's so
strange to me!  My Mike had a Men's Breakfast at 8 his morning, so he had to
get out there and shovel.  I think I'll just lay low and start adjusting my
brain to the reality that winter really is coming around again.  ;)

gee willikers man, i would help/but I'm in shock after our temps
dropped to nearly 20 for the first time in decades. Just don't wear
that snowblower out. Sounds like your turning him into a real handyman
and thats a good thing. There will come a time when he will truly
appreciate the time your spending working together. My 30 year old is
graduating next week and just told me that he is going to stay on for
the few months we need to finish the house. These are precious hours we
get to share with our kids.
