"Here is an update you can share with ASA:

We have been extremely busy of late.  My son, Micah, leaves on his mission
for our Church on the 29th and we are busy preparing him to go.  He will be
serving in the Eugene Oregon area.  We are so incredibly proud of him.  He
has fought through so much to get to this point.

Amanda, my daughter, is very busy at school even though she is still in a
lot of pain from her muscular dystrophy.  She is on the color guard for the
marching band, the head sound tech for all school productions, and in all GT
and honors classes.  She continues to amaze me with her courage and
tenacity.

We are thankful that Wendy still has a job following the student unrest at
Gallaudet.  We aren't so sure how long it will last as at least one faction
is demanding that the audiology program be shut down - they're the enemy,
after all.  Still, she loves what she is doing and is being promoted to
Director of the program in January.

We purchased a 30 year old home in August and have been busy trying to
repair everything that needed repairing before winter hit.  We keep
discovering new things to do, so I am not sure it is a list that I will ever
be able to say is complete.  We had a flood Thursday following a severe
storm and I tested my body clearing 3 inches of water from my basement.  We
love the home even with all of it's 70's styling and worn out mechanicals.
It is single story, a perfect size, and in a fantastic neighborhood.  We
have wonderful neighbors.

I have been dealing with a bad flare for several months now.  I started
Humira a month ago and it is starting to help.  Right now my lower back,
hands, and clavicle are all yelling at me constantly.  It makes it
impossible to get a decent night's sleep.  But I remain hopeful that all
will calm as the Humira kicks in.

Anyway, that's my life at the moment.  It should calm down a bit once Micah
is off on his mission.  Until then, like I keep saying, I can do anything
with enough drugs!!

Walt"

Thanks for sharing this, DeeTee! I was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon. I
know for a fact that there is a strong, warm, lovely LDS community there. I
hope Micah feels at home.:)

Thanks for the update, tell Walt to make sure Micah has some good rain
gear he will be visiting Eugene during the wet season! PNW has been
very soggy this year.

Thanks for the  update on Walt Dee Tee.

He should be proud of Micah, he is doing good. I am proud of him too.

Amanda sounds like a very special girl. I bet he is so proud of her too.
She is amazing.

Congrats to Wendy.

Sounds great about the house, and the neighbors. HOpe all goes well with it.

I hope you get over the flare soon Walt.

You all take care.

Dear DeeTee and Bob Taggart
I ran into your message quite accidentally while researching about
some details on 'back pain' and thought of sharing some of my
findings. I've read at
'http://medical-health-care-information.com/Health-living/Back-pain/index.asp'

that The spine is the central support system of the body. We only
realise how much work our backs do when something goes wrong. A
sedentary lifestyle, poor posture, being overweight, bad working
practises and a high level of stress all contribute to back problems.

I hope the above is of some help to you as well.

Dear Chung,
your question about 'Diabetes' got me thinking. I know people
personally who have suffered due to this but I guess not everyone would

understand the challenges till faced with similar circumstances.
Anyways, I did a bit of research and found an article which says
Diabetes is a set of related diseases in which the body cannot regulate

the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood.
In diabetes, glucose in the blood cannot move into cells, and it stays
in the blood. This not only harms the cells that need the glucose for
fuel, but also harms certain organs and tissues exposed to the high
glucose levels.

I am so glad to hear that things are finally improving some for the Hanks
family!  Obviously, the job issues and Walt's flare remain problems, but it
must ease their hearts so much to have Amanda and Micah doing well.  May
Humira soon prove to be Walt's miracle med.
