I just got back from my 6 month checkup with my cardiologist. After he
listened to my heart for a long time (longer than usual), I thought he
was going to tell me something was wrong as he kept going back to listen
to it again. But then he said "It's beating stronger".  I never thought
I'd hear those beautiful words!  I cried most of the way home from
Edmonds to Bellingham :-)

And a question - I've been looking on the social security website and
can't find the page I'm looking for. I'm on SSDI now and I want to know
how much money we are allowed to make without losing our benefits. I
know I can't work full time as it's not physically possible, but I'm
thinking maybe a part time desk job...just a few hours a week. Does
anyone know the rules on this?

Thanks,
Carole :)

Congratulations on your good doctor visit.  SSA has a Ticket to Work
program that lets you try working for up to a nine month period and if
it doesn't work out, you can go back to receiving benefits.  I'm not
exactly sure how this works.

When I first went on SSDI some five years ago I was told I could earn a
certain amount which I think was around $500/month without loss of
benefits.  That figure has now gone up to over $800/month but I also
heard that if you did this it could/would trigger a review which could
or could not result in losing benefits if they decided you were showing
them you were able to earn.  Before I did anything about looking for a
job, I think I would find out more about this.

Thanks, Ann. I know they have that Ticket to Work program, but I can't
go back full time. I also don't want to invite a review, that's why I
was looking for info on their website. I don't want to call to ask them
as then they have your name and info in front of them and I don't want
to invite a review. I know what I can and cannot do. Maybe I should just
go to garage sales, find neat stuff and sell it on eBay :-)))

that's totally awesome news about your heart beating stronger!  totally
kewl!!!  {{{{{{{{{{{{{{happy dancing}}}}}}}}}}  i couldn't be happier for
you, sweetie!!!

i actually have a friend who entirely supports herself by shopping at garage
sales and auctions, then selling the stuff on ebay.  another friend just
buys used books and sells them on ebay.  so, it's not a bad idea at all,
carole.

Thanks, Kate :-)

Unfortunately, right now I'm down for the count. I got the virus from
hell. Spent all day yesterday throwing up. I'm very weak now and am
heading back to bed. Maybe I'll feel better later.

Thanks, SJ. I've been drinking water. Today I'm trying a cuppa tea :-) I
haven't eaten since Saturday, so I'm going to see if I can make some jello.

Yea, I think that might be the problem now. I have some vitamin water,
but one thing this sickness taught me is to create a pantry of things
for if I get sick.

BTW, my friend brought me organic bread and the brand name is
"Squirrely"!  I thought of you straight away :))

oh no now Carole is so hungry she is going to eat me. LOL ;-)

I use pedialyte for my dehydration issues and it is pretty good. I am
hearing that hydration fluids like this are better than sports drinks.

LOL!!! It's really good bread! It's made without flour, just grains.
I've never had it before, but I would buy it.

I am feeling much better today, still weak, but at least feeling alive
:) I may venture out and get some pedialyte. Thanks for the advice!

I didn't call him as on top of the vomiting I also had major diarrhea.
And there was no way I could get from my apartment to his office. So I'm
just waiting it out. I think I'm almost OK today. Will know when I try
to eat something :-)

honey, that kind of upper and lower digestive track distress sounds much
more like food poisoning, than a virus to me.   if this doesn't stop by
today, i'd suggest getting in to er.  go very easy on yourself with whatever
you eat, sweetie.  stick with easy to digest foods, for now.  your digestive
track could be very sensitive and or irritated by now.

That's what my best friend said also. I did eat at a restaurant last
Saturday and I have to say it was the worst lunch I have ever had. I
didn't even eat much at all. It was one of those buffet places - the
first time I ever went to one, and the last!

I managed to eat a little cereal today and that stayed down. I'm going
to try some soup for dinner and see if I can tolerate that. The diarrhea
seems to have stopped for now. I have been sipping water and letting ice
chips melt in my mouth so that I don't dehydrate.

Note to group - stay away from Izzy's in Bellingham.

Thanks for the hugs,
Carole :)

i hope you are feeling much better, now, hon.

the very last buffet i went to, last june, i learned to avoid salad bars
like the plague.  there were black and decomposing bits in the greens mix.
gives me the willies, just thinking about that, even now.

Thanks, Kelly. Yes I feel a lot better this year than I did last year. I
still have shortness of breath, but that comes with the territory. I'm
just glad that my heart is stronger :-)

$860!   WOW!    When I went on SSDI, it was limited to $300 -- and 15
hours a week.

Probably a good idea to eventually touch base with your doctor just to
make sure the virus doesn't do any more damage!

Call anyway. Really. Last year, I had a 48 hour digestive thing. Later,
when I discussed it with my GP (at a regular appointment), to find out
what I *should* have done, she told me that people in her office could
have made suggestions over the phone and phoned in a prescription for an
anti-nausea agent to the one local pharmacy that delivers. It never
would have occurred to me to ask, but it's good to know this is an
option.

Thanks, Alice. I should have done that. I had no energy today to even
think about getting in the shower, so I didn't call. I am eating and
thus far the plumbing is back in working order. I just feel wiped out.
No turkey day for me tomorrow, just rest. My friend brought me some
foodies so I'm OK there :-)
