COCOA CONFLICT
October 17, 2006
(So I was on vacation and just now catching up)

            [ P H O T O ]

Striking Ivory Coast farmers burned cocoa bean in Abidjan, protesting
low retail prices and high export taxes.  If the burning continues, it
could affect the global chocolate industry.  The West African country
is the world's top grower of cooa beans, producing 40% of global output
each year. Good weather has boosted the cocoa crop to record highs this
year.
