In Oregon we vote exclusively by mail-in ballot. The major benefit of this,
in my eyes, is that the sooner you return your ballot, the sooner the
political phone calls and mailings stop. If that only worked for TV ads,
life would be grand.:)
I returned my ballot 2 weeks ago.

California expects 50% voting will be via absentee ballot. Mary
and I are permanently registered for absentee ballots.

That means the political parties, PAC's and other interested
groups monitor the return of ballots to remove names?

What's TV? <g> The past 3 or 4 months I haven't viewed
anything except PBS Saturday evenings we aren't attending
a square dance and can't watch Lawrence Welk re-runs.
... Climate is what we expect; weather is what we get.

Where I live in Washington, we do also. I voted last week :-)

Not true here....I LOVE caller ID :)

I am SO looking forward to not having to look at the ads anymore. I used
the mute switch on the remote so that I didn't have to listen to them,
but even seeing them on the TV got so annoying!

I wish we could here -but we voted absentee for this election. In our
sparsely populated county, the turnouts for primaries are so small we figure
we owe it to the election wokers to show up in person if we are able!

how do they know to stop bugging you?
We were lucky - for some reason we got NO political phone calls at our place.
One person we know swore she absolutely would NOT vote for the person
supported by the first call she got this season and it turned out to be for
someone she never would consider voting for anyway!
As for the TV, thank goodness for many satellite channels, even on the basic
plan and for that remote.......

That's when we voted absentee. It's made it more fun to talk back at the TV
ads. LOL

Mary and I receive absentee ballots, fill them in within the week of
the election, then she drops them off at our polling place. She gets
to talk to the election workers - one is from our condo complex and
sits on the HOA board with Mary.

That's what I would like to know.

Mary received at least half a dozen a day on her line. The days
she's at work I would pick up the receiver and slam it back down.
I received not 1 single call on my line.

I did that with the litter bugs who strewed their signs along our
streets and posted them on school and park fences. If more
than 1 candidate for an office did that, I left the space for that
office blank - and there were quite a few.
And we will be seeing those signs for weeks after today.
I believe the county and the cities should send "rent" bills to
every candidate who posts on public property.
... Due to budget constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel is
off.

The candidates and PACs get daily updates from the county of who has
returned their ballots, then they're taken off the call and knock lists.:)
It's a great system, and a great incentive to get those ballots returned
early.

I would think so! It would definitely get us returning our ballots
IMMEDIATELY!

I think that happens here as well. I did get one call but it was the day
after I'd mailed my ballot, so I'm sure it hadn't been received and
recorded yet. But that was the only call I got. Other friends who
returned their ballots later than I did got a number of calls. This was
the first time I voted by mail. But next year I'll be sure to return the
ballot straight away! :-))
