From the article:

"His article, Hemochromatosis or Iron Overload - the Neglected Diagnosis
was a scathing attack on the medical profession for ignoring excess iron
in the body. Physicians were more interested in anaemias and low iron
deficiency and did not really perform the necessary tests of iron
metabolism to diagnose the opposite end of the spectrum - iron
overload."

This sets the context of his remarks, iron overload far in excess of
normal levels because of a genetic disorder, not from usual consumption
of iron bearing foods in the average diet.  The small snips in the
original post give a grossly distorted impression.

well, of course the snips do, calvin.  how could anyone support
and promote a spurious cause, which is for him an obsession, unless that
person disregards and distorts the facts?!  rusty rump's brain is chock full
of i**n overload!  there isn't any room in it for facts that don't point to
the conclusions he "needs" to see and wants others to see.  anything that
contradicts his obsession, is invalid to him.

Now .. you believe that a marker of 31% - 37% is indicative of .. iron

Now WHY would you be attempting to tell people that
the normal marker  31% - 37% .. mentioned above .. IS .. iron overload

Transferrin saturation
As an index of iron transport rather than storage, this measure
(calculated from serum iron and TIBC) is an alternative to serum
ferritin. However, as it is affected by the same confounding factors it

will not add much additional information in iron deficiency if a serum
ferritin has already been ordered. A serum transferrin saturation of

>55% can be a very useful indication of possible iron overload. On the other hand, if serum ferritin is elevated but transferrin saturation is low, the patient is unlikely to have iron overload.

For all those who are new here...

The author of the above post likes to flood newsgroups with (often useless)
articles which he interprets (or misinterprets) in a manner to support his
obsession with the "EVILS OF IRON". He gets very nasty when anyone points out
his mistakes. There are times when I think he should be used as a bad example
for anger management classes.

He is also a religious bigot, though he has toned that down a bit.

IRON OVERLOAD   Organ failure that results from excessive
accumulation of iron in the body, USUALLY as a result of
frequent transfusions or hemochromatosis.

HEMOCHROMATOIS  A genetic disease marked by excessive
absorption and accumulation of iron in the body.  The disease
is caused by one of several recessive mutations that result
in excessive absorption of iron from the GI tract.  It is not
caused by secondary iron overload, as may occur in patients
who have received multiple transfusions or who have
hemolytic anemia.  SYN:  bronze diabetes.

You should keep your mouth shut until you learn to behave yourself like ay
grown up.
You should try to read the articles you post before doing so. So you won't
have to make yourself ridiculous by not even knowing their content. But
maybe you don't even want to know it because you simply don't understand
what you're talking about? If you want to be taken seriously you could start

Diabetic nephropathy has become the leading cause of uremia. Several
lines of evidence suggest dietary factors other than protein intake
have a substantial role in the progression of diabetic nephropathy to
end-stage renal disease. The present investigation was initiated to
evaluate whether a carbohydrate-restricted, low-iron-available,
polyphenol-enriched (CR-LIPE) diet may delay and improve the outcome of
diabetic nephropathy to a greater extent than standard protein
restriction. To this aim, 191 diabetic patients, all with type 2
diabetes, were randomized to either CR-LIPE or standard protein
restriction and the following outcomes monitored: doubling of serum
creatinine, cumulative incidence of end-stage renal disease, and all
cause mortality. Over a mean follow-up interval of 3.9 ± 1.8 years,
serum creatinine concentration doubled in 19 patients on CR-LIPE (21%)
and in 31 control subjects (39%) (P < 0.01). Renal replacement therapy
or death occurred in 18 patients on CR-LIPE (20%) and in 31 control
subjects (39%) (P < 0.01). These differences were independent from
follow-up interval, sex, mean arterial blood pressure, HbA1c, initial
renal dysfunction, and angiotensin system inhibitor use. In conclusion,
CR-LIPE was 40-50% more effective than standard protein restriction
in improving renal and overall survival rates.

We all take turns "jumping on your threads" (since you aren't available to jump
on you in person) because we feel it necessary to warn people new to these
groups that you are a very nasty, mean-spirited, abusive individual with an
obsession about "THE DANGERS OF IRON" who slanders anyone who disagrees with
your diatribes and your doctrine.

Occasionally you do find something useful, which you generally misunderstand.
That may be why you post snippets; you probably don't understand the parts
which are in between.

Also, be advised that you don't own these newsgroups or the threads which are
posted there. If you don't want anyone to challenge your assumptions, leave the
newsgroups and start a mailing list. See if anyone really wants to read the
trash you post.

Yeah... the study... a perfect example of how not to do a study design. And
with just a little less stubbornness and a glimplse of the basics of
clinical research you'd notice and not disgraced yourself by posting it.

The study shows no effects if low iron diet since its data ascertainment is
insufficient. But I already told you that.

So what? The effect of the chosen protein as progression factor is known and
proven. The control group in your so called study had different composition
of protein and different amount of iron intake.
The data makes no differention between both. So... where is your prove...?

That is no study design.

It showed slowed progression. It did in no way prove an involvement of the
reduced iron because the study design gives no such data.

> Now .. whos' .. life are you .. playing with ..

None. Because I don't draw conclusion on assumptions on insufficient data.

I don't have to. I simply state that you draw conclusions on insufficient

*** SOLUTION:  don't post in newsgroups, rusty rump.
instead, email your "facts" to yourself and then you will be perfectly
content with the response you receive.

"Now .. facts .. may not be IMPORTANT to the likes of yourself .."

****actually, it appears that facts are more important to
Anja, than they are to you.

"But .. me .. I work .. exclusively .. in .. facts .."

****i totally agree, you do "work exclusively in [sic -
with] facts"--but . . . you've never learned how to scientifically evaluate
nor apply them correctly.  instead, you quilt with them, cut and patch, to
create your blanket theory of misinformation.  you typify the ancient greek
axiom, "a sophomore [which translates from the greek into "a wise fool"]
with a little truth is dangerous."

Why don't you just keep you threads out of the newsgroups
if you can't handle replies, crybaby?

... We need a pooper scooper for numbnutz' ramblings.

'Cause you don't own the internet, crybaby.

I think that it was "unskilled labor" which produced him in the first place...

Oh now Chief, don't confuse him with the facts!  As Anja said, it's
unfair.  You read and understand well, can't do that, it isn't keeping
the "playing field" level.

Sorry, I just don't like that OP.

Never did answer why my mother had to go through IR*N infusions, that
she found exceptionally painful to endure, every couple of weeks (and
she was a bigger carnivore than I am).

Nor did he ever answer why it is that *I* cannot process protein unless
it comes from meat (not fish, not chicken, not pork).

Nor has he ever considered that he may be wrong (may?  He is, I'm
walking proof).

Then of course, the ir*n poor blood from a Non-Vegetarian (me), and I
have RA, and I have Bursitis, and I have several other things that he
thinks only come from ir*n overload.  Maybe that's why I'm ignored
mostly, huh?
