Anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects of cherries on Freund's
adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats.
He YH, Zhou J, Wang YS, Xiao C, Tong Y, Tang JC, Chan AS, Lu AP
Scand J Rheumatol. 2006 Sep-Oct ; 35(5): 356-8

Objectives: To investigate the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative
effects of anthocyanins from cherries on Freund's adjuvant-induced
arthritis (AIA) in rats. Methods: Arthritis was induced intradermally by
injection with 0.1 mL of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) into the
right hind footpad of male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. Anthocyanins at
40, 20 and 10 mg/kg (body weight) were administered orally to the
treated rats for 28 days after the injection. Tumour necrosis
factor-alpha (TNFalpha) in serum and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in paws
were assayed by radioimmunoassay (RIA), and anti-oxidative effects was
assayed by measuring total anti-oxidative capacity (T-AOC), superoxide
dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in serum. Results:
Anthocyanins at 40 mg/kg significantly decreased the levels of TNFalpha
in serum and PGE2 in paws, simultaneously improving the anti-oxidative
status of AIA. We found that at this dosage T-AOC was potentized, the
activity of SOD increased and the level of MDA in serum decreased.
However, anthocyanins at 20 and 10 mg/kg had less effect on the
inflammatory factors and anti-oxidative capacity of AIA.Conclusions:
Anthocyanins have potential anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative
effects on AIA.

OH, you cruel man.  Harming a mammal like that.

I"m going to report you to the ASPCA and the local
eco-freaks in Canada.

May you concurrently develop every known form
of arthritis, simutaneously and all at once.

Hope someone dissects you while you are alive, loser. animals feel pain
as much as we do.
We torture these animals because we can not because of any moral right.

He just stepped out of a.s - alt.support.shyness
His only record is 97 postings in October.

He hasn't learned how we lean on Rusty Bucket, aka numbnutz Tom.

Well at least we all know what to do the next time one of our rats gets
into the mycobacteria stash.

Tommy continues to be such a gift in our little corner of the world.
What did we DO to deserve it?

Or does he feed on iron filings ?

'The adjuvant is known to stimulate production of tumor necrosis
factor, which is thought to kill the T-cells responsible for the
autoimmune destruction of the pancratic Beta cells' (in diabetes')
- So why does't it kill the T cells responsible for the propagation of
RA ?

uh ohhhh, peter.  don't let chief see that you spelled out
the entire I-word or you'll get tagged and will have to tag somebody else to
get rid of the  i**n cooties!  but to answer your question, rusty rump sure
does feed on them and on the unsuspecting.

because it would spoil rusty rump's obsessive-compulsive
idea of fun!

ya know, now that I live very near a major cherry growing area, I'm willing
to encourage the drinking of cherry juice or the eating of cherries - but
around here we make no claims of healing, we just point out the obvious that
a good cherry pie or handful of dried cherries will do wonders for your
spirits!

yeppers!  and if you eat them fresh, when you go for a walk, and spit out
the pits, everybody gets free cherry trees!
