Apparently Cox has done something weird with the news servers. I haven't
been able to get posts in a normal manner for several days. I changed
some things and wanted to see if I could post alright to ASA. I knew if
I just typed in "test" you would all let me know about it so I have
typed all this meaningless prose to confuse all of you.

Someone posted around noon "If your ISP is Cox, the outsourced
their newsgroup hosting this week. All groups need to be
unsubscribed and resubscribed."
That is also what my secondary newsgroup source told me after
I advised him I had not received any groups in 3 days (Mon-Wed).
Thursday he had them back up and everything's been fine since.

Here's what I received from Cox yesterday after three days email and
phone. Phone support knew nothing about it as usual.
Thank you for your recent e-mail. I understand you are having
difficulties to access the Cox Newsgroups service. I apologize for any
inconvenience this issue may be causing.
At the moment I would like to inform you our newsgroups service has
experienced various changes since the last maintenance. Currently our
newsgroup servers do not require authentication to access them. For this
reason, please remove any settings (username/password) you have in your
newsgroups reader that could cause an authentication error. Please click
on the link below to access information on how to properly configure
your newsgroups without authenticating your connection:

Please note that Cox does not provide support for e-mail clients other
than Outlook Express. If you encounter difficulties following the steps
in the above link, please contact the official support for the software
you are using.

Thanks for the info Terry. I didn't call because the phone people very
seldom have the info you need. I changed the server from "central" to
"east" and had the same problems so I assumed it was on their end.

When I was researching their site...it said I should be using
"west"...instead of central..so I changed it...nada...but then I unchecked
the box that said I needed password to log in... it worked...
So didn't we always need that password before...now when they decide that we
need to log in again..we will have to recheck the box...I had always used
"central" before....
Too many questions...I finally got it to work...I am just gong to go with it
for now...LOL

Yeah...I went in and resubscribed...and for a few days...nothing...and then
I unchecked the box...and Wallah...got my newsgroups again...Could find
nothing on Cox's website about a problem...I never did call them...just
wondered how all of a sudden that little box got checked...hmmmmm....I guess
it didn't ...

I think that's about the story Chief, they seem to be working now. Hope
I didn't miss anything.

I missed 3-1/2 days at my secondary ISP. But Google kept me
up-to-date.
... I want to be a procrastinator, but I keep putting it off.
