apparently this is quite rare and i have just been diagnosed with it. i
have a grade 1 slippage on L5/s1.

and thats about all i know.

i was very shocked when the doctor told me, having expected to have
just pulled a muscle or something.
i have very bad sciatic pain in buttocks and upper legs and, quite
unexpectedly, have been told that pain and stiffness in my foot is also
being caused by the spondy'. i also get numbness when i walk for 5 mins
and the pain intensifies so much, i have trouble completing a
supermarket shop.

having read quite a few threads, there seems to be alot recommending
exercise to build up the back muscles. this is something that the
consultant has told me not to do as it will worsen the slippage.
although it is still early days and i'm booked in for an MRI to show
the extent of nerve damage.

i guess i posted on here as i want to learn more about this and in
particular spondylolithesis caused by fractured pars rather than a
slipped disc.

can anyone help me?

thanks for listening

All things pertaining to spondy (and then some!) Very good sight for all
spine trouble.

I don't know about that, Gary.

The site turned up Veracruz for a doctor local to my zip code.  <G>

LOL, Gotta give ya that one Chief!! Apparently there are no doctors in my
zip code even though I see some of them physically. According to the search,
they almost all reside in the Chicago suburbs. Nearest one at least 25 miles
east of me. It did show a few a little less local than that though....

Hello Emma,

In July 2006, I had surgery to correct a Grade 3 slippage. Which ultimately
was
a "fracture" from what my Neurosurgeon told me.

I agree, you shouldn't do any form of back exercises until you see a
qualified PT
doctor to instruct you the right way.  Since going to PT afterwards I'm
noticing its
quite a bit different then other back exercises.  Especially the bending.

Also a MRI will not show any "nerve damage", the only way to find this out
is to
have  an EMG done which is semily painful but needed.

If you have further questions feel free to ask, I'll try to help from my
experience.

Take care.
