Rheumatoid Factor Question

Hi, I'm a newbie here and I have a question. For the past year, I've been
getting blood tests and all sorts of other tests regarding a high level in
my rheumatoid factor. Earlier this month I got a bone scan to check for
synovitis. My results came back negative for rheumatoid arthritis. I am
sooooo frustrated, I just cried. I hurt in so many places, my hands and feet
flare up where it feels like someone is breaking them, and yet nothing.
Sometimes my knuckles are black and blue, which someone told me is normal
for RA. Am I going crazy or is there some kind of time limit to this thing
that is just hides for a while and then shows up somewhere eventually? I
already have fibromyalgia, so that explains some of the pain, but this
elevation in my blood is really bothering me. And the rheumatologist just
seems so blase about it. I just wondered if anyone here could give me half a
clue. Thanks.

For years I've been eating sh.t for breakfast, lunch and dinner. From now
on, I'm eating sh.t-free.

Allison, first thing you need is a new RD. There is nothing about RA
that is blase. If you have ongoing inflammation you have to get to the
bottom of it cause if its RA or another of the inflammatory forms of
arthritis irreversible damage is occuring. Finding a good doc that
cares is the most important thing you can do right now. good luck

Allison, I agree with Johnie.  Geet a different RD.

And a me three,,,,,  It is not alright for you to feel the way you do
everyday.   If you want to give the doc another chance,,,, fully explain
what you day is like and let the doc know that you expect help,,,, to just
go on and on is not going to continue.  If the doc takes steps to help
you,,, fine..... if not,,,, good buy bubba.

RHEUMOID FACTOR  (RF) - Antibodies raised by the body against
immunoglobulins.  It is present in roughly 80% of patients with RA,
and in many patients with other rheumatological and infectious
diseases.  The RF is used, with other clinical indicators, in the
diagnosis and treatment of RA.

Not being doctors, no one in this group can really offer a diagnosis.
But I wonder if your FM is contributing to the high RF, and you do
not have RA.

Nah, Chief,

One of the hallmarks of FM that distinguishes it from other
musculoskeletal conditions is the lack of any factors. Bloodwork comes back
annoyingly normal for FM'ers. It's a chronic pain disorder rather than a
traditional rheumatoid or infectious disease.

Agreeing with johnie and Gwen: Allison needs an RD who will actually
treat what she has, whichever of the rheumatological conditions it may
be...not necessarily RA, but it isn't FM causing the high RF fersure.

Hugs from Rosie
