Hi all,
Just left the GP's and blood pressure is down to a normal range again. Have
a long term script for meds and also helped to quit smoking (10 days now.)
They would like me to lose "a few pounds" yet....about 30!
Got ambitious and am putting in laminate flooring in the living room and 2
bedrooms. Pulling up old carpeting to get into trash for pick-up tomorrow,
back is already not happy with me. This job is way, way overdue. Am taking
it slow, but it doesn't take much to give me trouble. Couldn't pass on the
flooring as it was the least expensive I have ever seen. On sale for approx.
50% off. Couldn't buy cheap carpet for that (67 cents/sq. ft.) We are about
done with golf for the season. Maybe one or two rounds left if we have
indian summer around here. Otherwise, time to clean the clubs and put them
up 'till next spring.

Hi Gary,,,,,  Great news on the smoking.   The first 10 days are the worst.
It gets easier from here on in    unless     you get in a poker game   or
something else where you always had to smoke.    Just don't do that....
Ooooh, I need to do what you are doing with the floors butttt just can not
for awhile.   Tooo many places hurt a little for now.
If you saw my CT scan of my lungs when I was starting treatment for TB
exposure,,
all those years of 3 packs a day and the scaring,,,,, well ,,,, you would
never touch one again.   By the way, when I stopped,,,,, I would not touch
one,,, I would not buy one for someone else and I chewed  cinnamon gum until
my mouth got raw and had to stop.
Let me put it this way,,,,, stop for your grand kids to be.   You do want
them to know you a little ,  huh,,,, yeah,,, I thought so.
Good luck with the floors...  you need more than luck to stop smoking.

Hello Old man Gary

hehe.   I think it is great you are stopping smoking.  "WAY TO GO".  I also
did the same in 2002 when I saw my 52 yr old brother on a respirator with
open heart done to him. Doc told the family the reason wasn't cholesterol
but nicotine in your arteries.
Well after awhile it nags on you.

I was a heavy smoker and man it took awhile. Used the patch but it made me
dizzy so I just threw the suckers away.  This for me is the longest I have
"ever" gone when quitting.   SO hang in there.
IF you need help with it, call the American cancer society and they will
help you out.  OR get a script for the patch, the gum or what ever it takes.

NO darn wonder you are ripping up flooring and redoing.  What's the next
project?  I know, clean the walls and have the furniture cleaned and you
will be amazed how much better your house feels and smells.  been there done
that.

so hang in there friend you can do this but it is hard and if you falter,
just go back and try try again.  It will happen.

Oh and put that puter away, it is too darn chilly to be out on the course
chasing after that little white ball.  mmm  Yeah that sounded right.

Good luck now
janers
oh and you smell better already IF that is possible haha.  GOT YA!!!

Thank you all for the encouragement.

I quit long-term once before for 5 yrs using the patch. Couldn't do it any
other way. Started playing around with cigars and that was the beginning of
the end. Come 9/11 I figured we were going to nuke somebody and said "what
the hell". Been on the verge of  quitting again for awhile now (aren't we
all?!)  So I am back on the patch and doing quite well knowing any cravings
are mental and not physical. I think this time seems much easier because of
the antid's which I didn't have last time. Any cravings I have had are short
and mild. I feel better physically and mentally. Severe morning cough has
disappeared, can you imagine that and gee I wonder why??!!!
Don't need to clean that much as I didn't smoke in the house at all due to
Mike's asthma. DO need to clean for other reasons though! :-)
Mike has no school today and I'm taking the day off to do the floor. Forgot
I have to work tomorrows game and I want my living room back by Sunday for
football. Good time for this as Mike can help me move stuff around that I
can't get out of here.
Hope for ya all to have a pain-free and happy day...

LOL!  dang!  i knew i couldn't get that syntax right!LOL  of course, i meant
that i managed to stay off cigarettes for 5 years.LOL  actually, the
c-section, itself, was a piece of cake.  the scary part was alex's heart
rate dropping to half of what it should have been and his not breathing for
7 1/2 minutes.  and i guess, the ruptured uterus was a little scary, but not
nearly as scary as that---and yes, well, who listens to doctors when they
tell you "don't!".   or maybe, i should say, i didn't listen to "don't get
pregnant".

The bus driver?  <g>

... If you're not confused, you're simply not pay attention.

Gary,

Good news on the quitting smoking. I wish I could do it too. But it hasn't
worked so far. still trying though.

Boy you sound like you are doing alot with the flooring. Take it easy, the
back is going to scream.

Actually I was seeing golf green when you were talking about carpet. ;-)

Yeah put those putters away till next spring. You don't want to destroy that
back with the cooler temps and such.

Good news on the smoking and the blood pressure - you can do it Gary.  As
for the laminate flooring - I love mine.  I have one more old carpet to pull
up and we hope to do that this fall.

Take it easy on yourself  and hopefully you can get a couple more games in -
will be hoping for an indian summer for you.
