Hi Gang!

Just a quick note here as I'm not supposed to keyboard for any more than
15 minutes a day until my hands heal a little more from my hand surgery.
Thank goodness I'm a fairly fast typist!

Had the hand surgery on both hands on the 25th of september, and so far,
so good!   Was a bit bumpy the first week or two with my hands wrapped
up like boxing gloves, but much easier now that the dressings are off
and the stitches are out!

Also did my first two infustions of Rituxan and am waiting now to see if
it is going to work for me.   Just had the second infusion last week, so
have a bit of a wait to see yet.   RD said 6-8 weeks for it to kick in
if it is going to work.   The infusions were ok, although, both times I
broke out in hives when they game me the IV benedryl.  Go figure?!
After the first infusion, landed in the hospital with side effect
issues, but was a little more prepared the second time around.   The
side effects were still unpleasant, but they have started to subside
now---thank goodness!

In any case, I was wondering for those of you that have palm pilots, if
you could share some of your experiences with the palm pilots with me.

1.   Can the palm pilots be used independently of a computer or do you
absolutely have to have a computer to use one?

2.   When entering adresses and phone numbers in the palm pilot, does
the palm pilot allow/have space for more than just one or two phone
numbers?

3.   Does the palm pilot allow you to add additional notes/information
in the same area that you enter the phone numbers and addresses?

4.   Does anyone have any recommendations on specific types of palm
pilots that are very user friendly?

5.    If you were going to buy a new palm pilot today, what brand/kind
would you buy?

Thanks for any and all input on this subject, I really appreciate it!!!

> 1.   Can the palm pilots be used independently of a computer or do you

Yes - they don't need the computer at all except as a really convenient back
up storage. I use both the computer and the palm. I use the palm when I'm
out and about and the computer version when I'm at home.

> 2.   When entering adresses and phone numbers in the palm pilot, does
> the palm pilot allow/have space for more than just one or two phone
> numbers?

Yes - they have home, work, mobile, fax, email, and just about any way of
contacting the people that you can come up with.

> 3.   Does the palm pilot allow you to add additional notes/information
> in the same area that you enter the phone numbers and addresses?

Most have not only four or five extra blocks for info, but you can also add
a note to any of the entries.

> 4.   Does anyone have any recommendations on specific types of palm
> pilots that are very user friendly?

I love my Zire 31 PalmOne. It was barely over $100 and has been a workhorse
for me.

> 5.    If you were going to buy a new palm pilot today, what brand/kind
> would you buy?

I would get another Zire without reservation.

Hope this helps, Donna.

The only thing I could add to DeeTee's post is that my Treo is a cell phone,
built by Palm, which has the best of both worlds in one unit. I couldn't
live without it. I have my cell phone (which is my emergency number for
Rachel's school) with me at all times, and it includes all contact info and
calendars pertaining to her. If this thing dies, I probably won't be far
behind.lol

Well actually Donna, when you first started talking about your hand
surgerys....I thought maybe you were going to tell us about some excercises
for the hands that you had to do to help them heal...LOL.
Hope the healing is quick and Please don't over do on the keyboard as you do
want them to heal quickly and without complications.
Hugs
Cindy

Donna, I didn't even notice the misspelling.  I read it for what it was
supposed to be.  What does that say about my brain?

Donna, I also thought you were going to talk about exercises you need to do
for your hands. ;-)

I sure hope things go well and you have a speedy recovery. Have been
thinking of you alot.

I sure hope you don't have anymore reactions or side effects with the
Rituxan.

You take care and don't be typing too much. I know you want to be back with
us and we want you back. But you have to do what you have to do to recover
quickly and correctly.

Denise is still healing. It is slow going. She can walk further now. But
still not able to do much else. She saw her lung dr yesterday and he seems
to think she is doing good so far.

She is upset though because they had to increase her pain meds and neurotin
to help with the nerve damage done by the surgery. She is in alot of pain
right now.

Me, I am about the same. But I did hurt myself yesterday. The bum leg that I
supposedly didn't hurt when I fell, that has permanent damage done in it now
from the fall. My hip popped out when I was getting in the car, I of course
moaned and whimpered. Some woman two cars down thought that was funnier than
all get out. If my hip wouldn't have gone out, I would have shown her how
funny pain is. ;-) But today now, I keep getting spasms and cramps down the
back of my leg, also sharp pains in the knee, and the ankle is all swollen
again. Did I say I hate this weather. ;-)

But life goes on and I know alot of others have far worse stuff going on.
My lungs still are not doing good either.

OH yeah Jim is going for a job interview tomorrow. Then he got a call from a
friend he used to work with and they have a lead for him to follow too. So
we are hoping he gets one of these jobs. This boss he has now is not working
him enough and we still have to keep getting money from his dad. That is
sad.

Thanks Gwen,

He is still gone, so I know he had the appt in SF at 1. and it was suppose
to be a twenty minute interview.

He was talking about stopping in at the administrative office on his way
home about the other job, so he might be there now.

I will let you know as soon as we know.

out.

always in mine.

Even if you are a fast typist, please don't overdo it; I believe that it's more
about the flexing and the impact than about how many minutes you type. They may
mean "15 minutes a day" for people who do "biblical typing" (seek and ye shall
find). That would mean five minutes for a faster typist.

It reminds me of a photographer I once knew who came down with German measles;
when they told him to avoid bright lights, he went into the darkroom to print
pictures and caused himself some big problems. They meant for him to avoid
looking at bright lights as his eyes were very sensitive, and here he was
staring into the enlarger via the grain focusing tool.

One or two days more rest can mean one or two weeks sooner recovery.

Take care of yourself,
Norman
