I'll be asking my doctor this question but I was wondering if any one has
taken prednisone while having a flare (without calling the doctor).
I'm on MTX but some days, not often, I just feel as if I need something
additional to make me feel better.
Thanks,
Betty

OOOh yes,,,, many times,,,,,, but do I advizzze anyone else to do the
same???? Noooo........ I have been dealing with my RA for wayy over 25
years under a RDs care.
I also have learned to read the signs of what is taking place when starting
a flare and I do not know how many times I have turned off a flare by taking
10-15mg of prednisone.
That is because I do not take it every day or even every week or month. The
prescription of prednisone that I have is over 3 years old and that is a
months supply if taking every day.... This is something that a person
should talk over with their RD and go from there but do I do that??? Yes,
I do.

Yes, I do. I take prednisone to ward off flares with the advice of my
rheumatologist.
I am also on 5mg of prednisone once a day for maint.

Shouldn't you be on a steady dose of MTX. Never took it so don't know
the method or times. Not just take it when you hurt.
As to the pred., I have done pulses without the doctor telling me to but
I had discussed that in the past with him. Usually do it for trips and
vacations. I pulse up and then down again to the amount I take daily
which is now 7 mg.
I would be inclined to ask your doctor.
