Bob and I live in a desert zone.  When the folks in
WV, MI, WI, etc began talking about snowblowers and
shovels, Bob had to ask a question.   <g>

It's bits of white.  Looks sorta like laundry powder,
only it doesn't necessarily make you sneeze.  Falls
from the sky, sort of like that wet stuff called
"rain", only its frozen.  Pretty when alone but they
will cling together once on the ground.  The sound of
walking on it is akin to squeezing a box of baking soda...

heh - we have a winter storm predicted for this coming weekend!  Argh!  this
is at elast 2-3 weeks early for first snow.  I've been busting my butt since
returning from my mom's trying to take care of the last of the harvest.  Last
year we hit this point in late Oct., this year our first freeze was a month
earlier.  Meanwhile, the firs are LOADED with cones.  Looks like a harsh and
long winter ahead.

Now that sucks! (pardon my vernacular)

And Rose had these words in reply:

SoCal has been told/warned that this could be a very *wet* winter.
Most of the area was not built to handle the runoff.  Roads cross
rivers at level, two huge shopping malls built in a river bed - and
the owners want the taxpayers to finance the construction of
drainage systems.

We have been told a mild winter with little precipitation when really we
desperately need rain.  The NE part of BC has had 1/5 the amount of
precipitation since June that they usually have.  not that Victoria is
complaining but we have had less than 1/2.

It has been very dry in the southern interior as well. One drawback
here with the mild winters is that the pine beetle is not being killed
off. Our forests have been literally ravaged by the pine beetle.

I went to Kamloops not long ago, and was totally shocked by the extent
of the bug-kill. It was not only mature trees like the government
wishes to believe. It was also seedlings.

We need a cold winter with lots of snow. (As much as that would be
h-e-l-l for me.)

We agree totally!  Had snow showers on and off all day today with a bitter
windchill.  We *were* going to go to a nearby high school football game
tomorrow night as we know one of the band members, but the weather may change
our minds.  It's only supposed to reach 36F tomorrow and with thw wind, the
lack of sun and the snow prediction, a nice warm house appeals so very much
more!
