Pam, I took Sulfasalazine for a short while but it really messed up my stomach.
I didn't have any of the other symptoms, though.

hi pam,

6 weeks is a long time to allow these symptoms to go on.  whether these
symptoms are related to this particular drug or not, he needs to report them
to his doctor, asap.  something is definitely causing all this to happen.
letting it continue, without medical treatment, may worsen the situation.
tell him to get in to see his doctor.

Have never used this drug (am allergic to sulfa), but the throat thing,
itching, and rash are things I have experienced when I had allergic
reactions to medication. Not saying that your husband is in fact having an
allergic reaction, though.

I'd call the doctor's office first thing, just to find out if these symptoms
are within the list of known side affects and whether the doctor wants to
continue on this medication or change to another.

Hey, I took that stuff (several times).  First time I used it, it
caused rectal fissures (with the itching, yep).  The docs figured that
may have happened because it's used to treat IBS/D.  Whatever...  The
second time I got the rash, but it was directly related to how much
time I spent in the sun (like more than a minute).  It made me hyper
sun-sensitive (okay, go ahead and start with the Vampire jokes).  I
would get really, really bad hives.

Never got the throat thing, and as suggested by Kate (I think), you
really need to contact his doctor about this.

I know DH, M-I-L, D-I-L, S-I-L, and several others, but what is "OH"?

Pam, see the separate post titled "SULFASALAZINE" from the U.S. FDA.

> there are no contra-indications on the label.... thnx for any info  plz

That's a big problem when prescriptions are filled from a LARGE jar
into small vials for individuals.  It's one of those "there outta be a
law"
situations because we are at the mercy of the drug companies, our
doctors and pharmacists who don't tell us about side effects or
conta-indications.

Is that like scizophrenia?  You have 2 identities?    <g>

Or more likely it's similar to SO - significant other.

I read the remander of your replay, and I'm glad he's
stopped taking the medicine for now.  For 2 weeks, I
had a similar reaction to a statin drug this past spring.
No problems after I stopped taking it.  Statins are highly
contraindicative with antiflammatory medicines.

Pam,

I would call the doctor and let him know what was going on.  In the
other post by Firechief it sounds like he may be having an allergic
reaction to the med.
