Got a call from Diane last night and it was all good.  She is moving along
really quickly now - standing on her own a bit, more transfering (at a
higher stage than she expected to), building some arm muscle again and
walking further distances with her walker.  She sounded so positive and it
sounds like she can come home for good next month! Her rd is contemplating
either orencia or rituxan but has said she wouldn't feel uncomfortable
putting her back on enbrel.  Diane says NO.

So positive thoughts everyone.  She can read the postings but not send right
now.

Kelly, thanks for letting us hear from Diane.  Things seem to be getting
better, thank goodness. She is still in my prayers.

Thanks Kelly for keeping us updated about Diane.

Diane, this is great news to hear. I am glad you can at least read these
where you are. I do hope you do get to make it home soon.

You take care, heal and get home as soon as you can. We miss you here.

Such wonderful news!  It's good to know all her hard work is paying off.

I'm with her - stay away from Enbrel!

How are you doing, Kelly?

I am really downhill.  I get dressed in the morning, lie down for a short
bit, go for breakfast (so I get some socializing), maybe get a couple of
groceries if any energy left, go home and nap for 3 hours, get up and make
dinner (anything quick and easy with  no brains) and then usually go have a
bath and go back to bed and read until time to sleep.  I figure about 1 - 2
hours of function - the rest of the time it is fatique and pain.

The rituxan is approved by the doctors, I have to pay about 8,000 the first
month and the drug company is picking up the other $3200.00.  The problem is
who is doing the infusion.  The local hospital said they were too busy to
start doing anything else so would not even look at it.  The rd's office has
a pre-existing binding agreement to do clinical trials and remicade and
cannot do the rituxan without being sued.  Therefore I am being sent to
Vancouver and have to see another rd - good one though.  I am seeing Alice
Klinkoff so am pleased about that. The infusions will be done at the Mary
Pack Centre.  At least I can stay at moms.  So the infusions will probably
be the beginning of November in Vancouver - the appointment with the RD was
done on an emergency basis - they got me in for Friday.

I have written my mla, the health minister, the health critic and the
conversation on health crap that they are advertising for the province.  So
we will see what comes of it.

The effexor is working for the depression - stopped crying so that is good.
Now if the rituxan will just work on the RA I can get back to being Kelly
and not one huge swollen lump of pain and mainly fatique.

Shouldn't have asked Rose - more whining!  But it will be over soon I hope.
This WILL be my med (can't hurt right? - yup said that about enbrel!)

Hope your course is going well.

Good for you, Kelly, but a damn shame you, the one in pain has to fight for
that. The local hospital refused to do it?????!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell do they
think they are doing? Good grief. As a nurse I find that criminal.

I hope you get started on the med soon and that it works. Hugs from Ontario.

>I am really downhill.
I am sorry to hear it! That is crap, and I don't call it a whine at
all. It is total crap that you have to wait so long and jump through
all those hoops. One plus though is that they are very good at the
Mary Pack, and your rheumy there is on the front lines for research.
If you see OT there say hello from me. LOL

What is happening with the house? We have not heard an update.

This is my week off between courses. I believe I did well in the last
one which was called Social Contexts and Contemporary Issues. I feel
that I learned a great deal. I have family members upset with me
because I have been so focused on my course work that I have not been
able to call. It is hard to balance things sometimes.

I have a great class. This is the first time in a while that I have
not needed an SEA. Imagine! LOL There will be some who have learning
issues, but no serious behavioral or health issues.

Since it is my week off, I have developed a bad cold. Goes to show
you, eh? I had planned to catch up on a few things, clean the garage,
do some exercise; stuff I have not had time to do. The next course
starts Monday.

Also I have to become thoroughly familiar with BCeSIS because that is
the reporting program we are using and I am the resource person. It is
a web based system that feeds right into the ministry of ed. It is
very complicated and can be very, very slow and finicky. There are
many little codes that need to be put in, probably as a security
measure. Some of my staff are interested, but we have a few
technophobes, and a few others who are annoyed with the whole process.
Then we hear each day  from the high school teachers about how awful
BCeSIS is. LOL It is like walking on eggshells sometimes.

Please let us know what you are doing. Even though I do not post much,
I do read the ng when I can.

Took two months for the Rituxan to start working for me
so be a bit patient if you don't see something right
away. The lady I took the infusion with however had
instant success.
It is still holding the Remicade and Arava I also take
but were fading before Rituxan so that is a very good
thing.

Kelly,

I feel for you and my heart goes out to you. I know that is terrible not
being able to do much. I know it is terrible too being in pain and having
fatigue all the time too.

I sure hope the rituxan will help and do the job for you totally.

It sure sounds like that RD office is a good one.

I am glad to hear the effexor is working for you too.

Soon we will have our old Kelly back and chipper again. ;-)

You take care, I know this has been really hard on you.
