Dawn O asked about the program and I unearthed this post
from 5 years ago.
When I participated, the program was "Spring" or "Summer"
or "Winter Holidays", i.e., a one-month event.
So.....since harvest time and Thanksgiving are just around
the corner, I thought a one-time Thanksgiving Secret Sender
Program would be nice.
Is there anyone out there who can coordinate the program
this time around? I'd love to, but Mary & I will be on
a 2-week trip in October and couldn't possible assemble
all the data with the time constraints. It takes a couple
of weeks to receive information (below), a week to sort
it out and match participant, and a couple of weeks
for participants to purchase and mail gifts. That's
6 to 8 weeks lead time for something of this nature.
It doesn't happen overnight.
Or....if there is interest, I would operate a "Christmas"
Secret Sender Program beginning November 1st. It would
run parallel to the annual Christmas card program.

It's kind of like a secret pal thingie. You send in a profile to me, and
so do lots of other people. Then I match people up with one another, and
then you send at least 1 gift a month. People usually send cards, notes,
flowers, candles, soaps..things like this. I think the first round we
said nothing over $10, but some people chose to send more.
We had about 50 people the first round, 30 people the next, 20 people
the last round, and we will see what we have this time. I already have
ten people signed up!
Would you like to be the next? If so, fill out the profile below and
email it back to me. When I match you I will send you a profile of who
you will be sending to, but I won't let you know who is sending to
you...wouldn't be much of a secret sender now would it! hee hee

RULES FOR THE SECRET SENDER PROGAM
You must be a participant in ASA at least 4 months.
(We don't want e-mail and snail mail harvesters and stalkers.)
I will acknowledge your submission by responding to your e-mail.
You will be assigned a person to whom you will be the secret sender.
You are supposed to send this person a package every month until the
end of October, starting next month (August).
You will reveal yourself to the person on October 30th, either by
sending a card by snail mail or by e-mail.
If you for some reason have problems one month, you will have to notify
the coordinator of the program immediately so that we can notify your
SS pal that you will be late sending the package. Remember that dropping
out of the program can hurt people!!!
When you have received a package, please send a thank you note
immediately to the coordinator's email address. I will then send
it to your SS pal.
Whew!!! Did you get all that? If you have any questions please feel
free to email me at the email addresses listed above.
Thanks everyone!!

It's probably too late in the year to have a Secret Sender
Program for 2006. However if there is enough interest
we could run a Valentine SSP or a St. Pat SSP (think of
something green to send). <g>
We've tried to avoid religious SSP's since we do have
members of various faiths and wouldn't think of stepping
on anyone's toes or offending anyone.
We have sent Hanukkah cards instead of Christmas cards
to members who we knew were of the Jewish faith.
There are other possiblities. First day of Spring, etc. etc.
... If at first you DO succeed, try to hide you astonishment!
... If at first you don't succeed:
... Hide all evidence that you tried;
... Cry and cry again; then,
... Try reading the instructions.
