in the past few days, i've noticed this in two friends, who have ddd.  now,
i'm curious.  how many of you on asa, who have spinal issues do this:

you swallow something, could be saliva, food, beverages or even air, and it
goes down in a way that triggers your choking and/or coughing reflex.  and
here's the strange part, when that choking or coughing reflex finally
subsides, it is immediately followed by a sneezing episode.  there is no
break inbetween the coughing episode and the subsequent sneezing espisode.

i've done this same thing, for several years, and still get teased about it
being weird or funny.  i thought it was just one more odd thing about me.
so, i laugh at the teasing and i didn't think much about it.  but now, i've
got two friends who also do this, who didn't to do this before.  i know
these two friends have also got spinal issues, too.  so, i'm just trying to
see just how common this is with spinal issues and if, perhaps, there is any
correlation (not necessarily causation, though there "might be" some
causative relationship).

This happens to me in the morning, but I can't say I notice it any other
time during the day.

I have DDD & have coughing fits caused by excess saliva but no sneezing
episodes.

Kate,

I've had DDD for 26 years and not had this problem.  But recently I
have noticed that I swallow anything (occassionally) and it causes dry
hacking heaves which is very difficult to stop.
