The following is from my sister.  Does this sound right--just get used to
the pain?  Jan O'

no, jan.  it doesn't sound right.

that is old school mentality, instructing a patient that she will just "just
have to learn to live with the pain."  it sounds like she needs another
doctor.  does she have a rheumatologist?  what kind of arthritis does she
have?  pain halfway down her leg from her knee down or from her hip down?

No, it doesn't sound right.  You don't just have to live with arthritis pain
in the knee.  There's always Synvisc to try, or the one Fire Chief had in
his knee last week, neither of which is cortisone.  There is also pain
medication available that could help.  And finally, there is a knee
replacement.  She needs to change doctors.

Gwen, gently disagreeing.  I've had all the things you mentioned below, and
I still have pain in the knee area, just not to the degree it was before my
TKR.  Synvisc was useless to me, and cortisone treatments only work
short-term for me.  Just from my own experience, I'll have to stick by my
original thought; that, in fact, most of us DO have to live with a certain
degree of pain.  Nanny

Jan, in answer to your question, yes and no.  With Arthritis and Fibro, no
matter what you do or do not do, no matter what medications you take, I
believe one does have to learn to live with a certain degree of pain.
However, anyone should be able to get the medication required to "take the
edge off" the pain level.  Nanny
