Carpal Tunnel Syndrome surgery, but where?

Hi all,

I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and need surgery,
but I have no health insurance because I am an American
and you know, 45 million of us don't have it.

Can anyone tell me if perhaps there is an option
to having it done in Cuba or some other country
where it might be affordable? Here, the estimate
is running something like $15000, which is
pure insanity.

I can't work in my chosen field because
of this health problem. In fact a lot of jobs are
closed to me now because of it.

Thanks.

Somebody is smoking crack.  I had CT release, S-L repair, and an ulnar
nerve reposition done for less than $8 total, all in one swell foop.

Find a competent orthopedic surgeon, ask if s/he can do it under a
local nerve block in the office.  If he can't or won't ask for a
referral to someone who can/will.  If you strike out on that and
you've got to go to a day surgery center you can negotiate a cash
price with the orthopedist and separately with the surgical center.
The surgical center price should include anaesthesia.

I have a cyst in my CT, which has to be removed.

Ok, so somebody is smoking crack+horse.  The "cyst" associated with
most cases of CT is a bag of synovial fluid that's extruded itself
between the wrist bones.  Usually those are drained in an exam room
using a large-bore drilling rig and some pressure.

I'm beginning to smell a troll.

I have never heard of anyone having any kind of surgery done, in the
doc's office or elswhere where the total outlay is your claimed $8.00.
Even with the absolugtely best insurance going the co-pays are far
more than that.  Even at the sliding fee clinc for the downtrodden,
poor, disabled, working poor, and so on the cost for an office vist as
a "minimal" (which means you get the lowest price for everything) is
$10.00.  So who is the "troll".

Dear Yubbers,

I had the TV on the other day and it was tuned to CSPAN, the government
channel, where they praise each other one minute and call each other
a.sholes the next. I had it on because it works well for sleeping. The was
some congressperson from Iowa who had apparently replying to the
immigration problem and such and somehow the subject of healthcare came up.
He said all Americans and illegal aliens for that matter have health
insurance. He pointed out that hospitals are required to treat you,
regardless of circumstance. He used an example of two Mexicans who stabbed
each other over smuggling drugs. One guy was so bad he was airlifted by
helicopter to a trauma facility in the US, but both were treated on U.S.
soil and didn't pay a cent (or peso).
So you just go have your surgery, and when they send you the bills, you
just send half to that nice man from Iowa and the rest to the Mexican
embassy. The government says you don't have to pay, it's on tape from
Friday night, in the congressional record, and if you need that man from
Iowa's name you just let me know.

Dont pay them a dime, it's on Iowa--og

Only for emergencies/trama, not for planned surgery/treatment.

Vehicle accident - yes.
Gunshot wound - yes.
Stabbing - yes.
Childbirth - yes (that's how all the wetbacks get
their kids born as American citizens).
Plane crash - yes.
Heart attack/stroke - yes.

Joint replacement - no.
Cosmetic surgery - no.
Tummy tuck - no.

... Support your local medical examiner - die strangely.

Tough sh.t.

I'm fed up with those wetbacks getting free medical
care off the taxpayers' back, getting free education
while American citizens have to pay tuition.

So STUFF IT, a.s kissing bleeding heart.

Yeah Chief, 'Greaser' is the proper terminology. ;-)

Hospitals are required to treat you, yes, but then they
stick you with the bill. Many won't tell you up front whether
you quality for free or cheap service.I even heard of a hospital
in Florida where they won't let you leave until you give them a
credit card to charge. And how much do they charge?
Up to 4 times what they would charge an insurance
company. Of course, some people say you can just lie about
who you are, as illegals do, but for an operation I suspect they
would want to see some ID. So the only thing to protect the
poor patient who needs serious surgery done is the
"statue of limitations on debt". The USA is all about getting
citizens into debt, and giving a free ride to illegals (who are
far cheaper than slaves ever were). Maybe, if I give up my
citizenship, I can get the surgery for free.

Have you worked enough quarters to qualify for
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)?

Is you income low enoung to qualify for Medicare?

Does your county have an indigent health plan (every
county in California does, under state law).

Some of the Republican counties in CA don't,
because they have only private hospitals.

Try Mexico. The prices for surgery for outpatient procedures there are
usually about 1/3 what they are in the US.

Please go to Cuba and have it done and come back here to tell us all about
it.   Oh,,,, you say that you can not afford the transportation cost to get
there???   Are you sure they are taking people from the USA into their
Communist system just to have a procedure done???  Do you think you can get
a job to pay for this down there???  Do you expect the head of Cuba to dig
into his 700 million in foreign banks to take care of you????  He does not
do it for his own people and he is going to do it for you????
Let us know how you come out and do not think the sharks that eat people
leaving Cuba will not see you floating in.

Before you pursue a solution outside the United States, you should
definitely consult with any and all social service agencies. If you
haven't done that, you certainly should.

Try Sen and try the British spelling which is what they use in India.
This was an Ugly American response (based on the film of the same
name).  Does not need a (sic) and you look very foolish for puting it
there and not knowing it was indeed spelled correctly.

i find all this fuss, about a word that is spelled correctly, mildly
amusing.

personally, i'd be more concerned about an orthopaedic surgeon who has so
much time on his hands that he can lurk in newsgroups and drum up business
from overseas.  afterall, the good surgeons are the ones who are too busy to
"lurk and drum up" and most of those are even too busy to eat lunch.
