I got a phone call from my best friend Joan today. She has pancreatic
and liver cancer. The doctors said there is nothing they can do and that
she only has a short while to live. I'd so much appreciate it if we
could put the ASA prayer machine into MAJOR motion. She was hoping to
come out and visit me this fall (she lives in NYC), but that's not
looking like it's going to happen unless we get a major miracle.

Hi Carole,,,, I can pay for all the people that know and love your friend
that they may have the strength to face the days again. I can pray for an
easy passing without pain and then I have to pray,,, thy will be done Lord.
I have had too many people around me to have cancer and hear them pray to
let them go, its more than they could stand. I am not saying that is the
way it is going to be for your friend. I am saying that I do not often
pray for a major miracle. You may get what you ask for.

Oh dear. That's exactly the same as the former rector of our churches here -
he was just diagnosed last month. Very sad. Adding Joan to my MAJOR prayers
list.

do you have a cell phone with lots of long distance minutes? I know you'll
be wanting to call her a lot.

what is the rectors name if that is ok to ask for it.

also does he have both pancreatic and liver cancer or just one of them.

prayers coming, carole. i hope the two of you can get together soon.
and this is a wake-up call for me, since i have a pancreatic tumor,
still almost certainly benign, that i get scanned every year to see if
it grows. i tend to take a cavalier attitude toward it; i will try to
be thankful i know it's there and can get it checked regularly.

had heard about her devestating news. So very sad!

ohhh, ((((((((((((((((((((carole))))))))))))))))))) i'm sooo very sorry for
you, honey. losing a best friend is just devastating (i lost two within two
months of each other--butch and barb). my heart goes out to you, carole. i
can only imagine how you must feel.

Thanks Kate, Kelly and Ginnie.

I'm sitting here today thinking about all the good and fun times we had.
Joan was supposed to come out here to Washington for a visit next
month, but that was not to be. I was so looking forward to it as it
would have been great to share the beauty of this state with her as well
as just being able to sit and chat.

It is so hard to lose a friend - how wonderful that you have great memories.
It is hard to imagine that she won't be coming to Washington to visit Carole
but so glad she is at peace now. As only a group like this can imagine -
pain can be so wearing.

May you always remember the good times and may you remember how blessed you
were to have such a good friend.
