Vickie, sermon prep probably differs from person to person and between
denominations, depending on how much of the service is devoting to actual
preaching, but I know how my husband puts together sermons changes from week
to week, depending on the readings for the week and on what he needs to tie
it in to in real life. And sometimes he has a sermon all planned out and
something will strike him Sunday morning, even during the service, and he
will completely change his sermon.
One thing I know, if you are talking about something that may be
controversial, WRITE IT DOWN! That way you can be careful about how you
phrase things. If you stick to speaking off the cuff in such situations, you
may really stir up a hornets' nest.

Yes, Nann I do know that this is a wide array of styles and types. (I
taught a sermon prep class a couple years ago at high school level.)
My pastor's dissertation is actually on the technology end of sermon
preparation. He breaks down the sermon once it's ready and puts
together a power point presentation to go along with the sermon. (My
son runs the presentation.) But I was interested in the similarities
that I had remembered from Diane's website. And yes! he appreciated
it as well!
Thanks to all,
