Has anyone been treated with either Synvisc
(Hylan G-F 20 / hyaluronan / sodium hyaluronate)
or Hyalgan (sodium hyaluronate)?

How often (other than a series of 3 to 5 injections)?
Once a year?      Twice a year?

How long did the treatment last, if it worked?

... Hark, what mail from yonder modem breaks.....

Me!  I have.  Had three series of 3 injections each of Synvisc,
starting right after it came on the market.

The first one of the first three shots worked immediately.
I walked
out of my orthopod's office on a knee that felt like it had
Air Ride.

The first series lasted me about 6 -- 8 months (I think --
it's been
a long time.)

The second series of 3 injections didn't have quite the same
good
results, but they helped, and they lasted maybe 6 months.

The last series didn't have quite the good results as the
second,
and they lasted nowhere as long.

Word was, a few months ago, that long-term studies of Synvisc
proved them no better than standard cortisone/lidocaine
injections,
AND there was a rumor that Synvisc might be taken off the market
because of that.

I can get you the REAL up-to-date answer on Wednesday when I
see my orthopod.  I was the first patient he ever used it
on.  Want
me to ask him?

Yes, please.

Monday, my rheumy stated he was going to request an OK
from insurance to start Hyalgan.  I know it and Synvisc
are basically the same, both from rooster combs.

The latest Synvisc material I have is January 2005 while
the latest from Hyalgan is dated April 2006.

... Sects!  Sects!  Sects!  Is that all monks and nuns think about?

I had the series of 3 injections of Synvisc...can't really say they helped
all that much...
But I am bone on bone pretty much...Maybe had I not waited so long...
