Squirrely - 24 Aug 2006 18:11 GMT The abscess was gone so he didn't have to do much with it, just yank the tooth. He said the abscess is now gone from the sinus area and that it is more than likely from the almond harvesting they are doing right now that my sinuses are so bad. So that was good to know.
He checked the other tooth I was having pain with and said no, no problem there except I have to keep from grinding my teeth that it is the muscles in those areas that are causing the other pain. So I was glad to hear that.
So hopefully I don't have to see him except tomorrow for a long time again. I mean a really long time.
It went quick today since he didn't have to open up my gum to get the abscess out of there. No stitches. So all I have to do now is go back in the morning for him to check it and then I am ok.
Thanks for any prayers and such. It helped.

My cable went out and I will get replacement tomorrow to keep reception stable...at @ $60. Ouch. In the mid 90s here and clouding up with possibly more t-storms. Dog don't like it. Ha. I'm to see the pain doc tomorow too and hope for more relief until my replacement surgery early November. Hope your allergies cool down with Fall approaching. have a good week-end.
Bud
Squirrely - 25 Aug 2006 04:22 GMT Thanks Bud,
I hope you get the cable taken care of.
I hope you get good results from pain dr tomorrow. I will be saying a prayer for you on that one.
I feel for you dogs I don't like T storms either.
We have the leftovers from Hurricane Herbert coming in. But so far till now it has only been clouds. Tonight the winds are picking up and it doesn't look so good out there.
Allergies never quit for me Bud they are year round. But it might be better in the fall, hopefully. This summer they have been really bad even my meds are not helping much.
Now if I could just stop grinding my teeth that would help. ;-)
It got to 94 today I believe. That was the last temp I heard anyways.

Do you have a splint to keep you from grinding? I do. It just fits over my teeth (mine's for lower but upper works a bit better). The plastic in the front is thicker so when your jaw closes, the molars don't touch - so you can't grind.
My dentist made mine for me (several years ago). He took molds of my teeth and made it himself (he likes that kind of stuff). If your own dentist didn't go learn how to make that kind of appliance (it would be a continuing education kind of thing, not part of a standard practice) you could check into whether there is a dentistry school in the area and see if you can get it done there.
I'm a big advocate of getting work at a dentistry school. The work is all checked by professors at every step along the way (not allowed to proceed until its 'right'), so you get a really excellent end product. And you are helping someone be a better dentist when they graduate.
Adelle
Squirrely - 25 Aug 2006 17:04 GMT That sounds good Adelle, I will check into it. No I don't have a guard. Except for my hummingbird one. She guards me all the time now. ;-)
Your welcome about the card. I know I am sending them out early but it is hard to get hubby to drop them off on time so I rather be early than late. ;-)

RE-"newbie' here! I remember your name from a few years back. Sorry about the tooth, but I think I can help with the bite splint.
Sounds like Adelle was talking about an NTI-tss splint. Over on the migraine group, lots of us have them, because they prevent the two jaws from locking together and grinding, because the grinding irritates the big trigeminal nerve on the sides of your face. And once that nerve gets riled up, you can get all kinds of misery from it. Rhinitis, migraines, random pains, sinus problems, I can't remember them all.
Check out http://www.headacheprevention.com/ and read up about the splint. It was invented by Dr. Jim Boyd DDS, who's one of the semi-regulars on the ASHM migraine group. I was having maddening non-stop headaches across my eyebrows and in the upper eye sockets, and constant rhinitis, and the NTI fixed it all.
And it's better than the routine, full-arch bite splints, because those splints that cover all the bottom row of teeth, OR all the top row, just make the jaws lock and grind 'more'. Put a pencil under your two front teeth and try to bite down, and you can feel that that big muscle on the sides of your face (where that nerve is) doesn't 'engage' as forcefully.
HTH,

Thank you so much for all the info. I have the rhinitis (sp) and always have sinusitis (sp) all the time. So that might be helpful for me. Never connected the two together.

> Hi, Squirrely, > [quoted text clipped - 27 lines] > > You can catch more flies with funny than vinegar. Ginnie - 28 Aug 2006 03:42 GMT Squirrely,
I forgot to mention that the NTI has FDA approval as a valid MEDICAL (not dental) treatment for prevention of migraine, and as such, will be paid for by most folks' MEDICAL insurance. What my medical insurance paid on was a script from my MD, and the NTI provided by my dentist, and the dentist's office providing the insurance claim.
I don't remember if you have migraines (hope not!), because if you don't, you might ask the dentist you go to for the NTI what to put on the script. BTW there's a dentist locater on that website, but quite a few dentists now provide NTIs. They're more prevalent than folks think.
Good luck!

Smokie Darling (Annie) - 25 Aug 2006 15:37 GMT > Thanks Bud, > [quoted text clipped - 14 lines] > > Now if I could just stop grinding my teeth that would help. ;-) I used to do that, and then my DH (bless *his* pointed little head) suggested pouring in water and coffee beans so I wouldn't need to make a pot in the morning (smart aleck). Not sure why I stopped, but I did. Took a while, I even practiced and trained myself to sleep with my tongue between my back teeth (that worked really well, but man the first few times when I'd bite my tongue...).
Glad to know the tooth is taken care of, I'm not sure there is anything worse than that... Well a headache is pretty bad too, just can't seem to function if my teeth or my head hurts. I can forget everything else...
Sorry about the allergies. I used to be like that, I'm so glad I outgrew it. Or maybe I just have other *funner* things to deal with, so I ignore the allergies. Not sure if you've said, but have you tried any of those OTC allergy pills? Do they help at all?
Best wishes that all of this just blows away with the wind (one can hope).
Smokie Darling (Annie) - one friend fixed her grinding problem with a "bite guard" she bought at Walgreens or somewhere like that (wasn't from a dentist).
> It got to 94 today I believe. That was the last temp I heard anyways. > [quoted text clipped - 21 lines] > > > > Bud Squirrely - 27 Aug 2006 17:17 GMT Thanks Annie,
I have tried over the counter stuff for allergies and nothing seems to work.
I can't do sudafed, it hypes me too much. All the rest dry me out too much.
I am taking Benedryl 25 mg four times a day right now. Also doing Nasarel spray and saline mist for the nasal. Taking tylenol 500 2 four times a day. The face pain from the sinus infection from the teeth has been unbelieveable. At least that is now better. but if I touch my face above the tooth area in the sinus area I just about go thru the roof. ;-)
I have to also watch what I take for allergies because of thyroid issues. So that limits things down too.
I put water on the stove to steam and that helps at times. I can't do humidifier or vaporizer, they make me really sick. I think it is the mold factor or some chemical in the water that doesn't mix well with the plastic or something. I end up having an asthma attack when I run them and get sick to stomach from it. Weird huh, but then I have been weird since I was born. ;-)
I am doing somewhat better though since I have been on the antib. So hopefully that will help greatly to get rid of some of the congestion, nasal stuff.
The other night the one nasal passage was almost completely closed off. I did the steam on the stove and that helped.
But I am even finding now too when I run the a/c since that heat wave, there is a moisture smell coming from it that makes me worse too. Never a dull moment here. But I shall live to do it again, I am sure. ;-)

I was just diagnosed with sciatica, so right now I'm not doing very well. The doctor gave me vicodin and I'm going to a massage therapist to try and get some relief. It's mega painful. It's also frustrating as I moved into a new apartment and there is an indoor pool here. I was doing so well at going to the pool every day, and now walking from the couch to the bathroom is like a marathon for me, so getting to the pool just isn't happening. I'm hoping this will let up soon so I can get back to every day activities.

Ginnie - 28 Aug 2006 03:50 GMT I agree that there's caution needed when taking Tylenol /acetaminophen, but the daily "safe" limit with Tylenol is 4000 mgs or 4 grams a day, and most folks try to stop at the 3000 level. If Squirrely's taking two 500's a day, that's only 1000 mgs.
I've been taking about 650 -- 1000 mgs a day for a number of years, and my liver numbers are fine.

I am taking the max a day. I take 1000 4 times a day. Don't have much other choice since they won't give me other pain meds.
They are too afraid because of me being so allergic to meds to give me anything else. I can't do aspirin products because of bleeding from them. So it really limits what I can take for pain.

I can't sudafed either, but I have used Afrin Nasal spray (...for 3 days then hide the bottle, as the doctor told me) when it got real bad.

She was nearly hooked on Sine-off (not even sure they make it anymore) because her sinuses were so bad. In her case (with her asthma and sinus allergies), when she quit smoking, after the umpteenth battle with pneumonia, those 2 issues got better fast. Not remembering that being an issue with you though.

Smokie Darling (Annie) - sorry was "away" for a bit...
Nann Bell - 26 Aug 2006 15:35 GMT Hey SJ, I am soooooooooo glad to hear you have that tooth out. Hopefully you will be abcess and infection free for a while, giving you a chance to get some other stuff under control. You and Jim are in my prayers all the time - it HAS to get better for you two one day.
I had TMJ stuff too, though it appears to be my bite rather than grinding or clenching. My then-dentist made me one of the standard guards as Adelle mentioned and it has been a blessing and I've also learned the neck muscles are connected to the jaw muscles (dah-dah!) so stretching out my neck actually helps my jaw as well. Go figure. Anyway, if you can't swing a guard from your dentist or get to a dental school, there are inexpensive kits you can buy to make your own that are better than nothing. Not as good as the dentist made ones, of course, but might be your salvation for a little while.
I feel for you on the allergies. Mine are year-round also and have been especially bad this summer, particularly since early August. Watching the pollen reports has helped me identify a possible allergan up here that I wasn't dealing with much down south, mostly because down south I was living in filtered air all summer! Now the plantain is easing up but the ragweed is starting. sigh............ Meanwhile, our sump pump has been on the fritz so the basement's leaking adding mold issues to the mix! If next summer is like this again, I'm voting for another round of testing and injections! Think I'll talk to my PCP about it at my physical next month.
Anyway, I feel for you and I know all the allergy trouble can't be helping your teeth any between sinus infections and having to breathe through your mouth more. Hang in there - soon the season and pollen will shift and it will be something else! LOL Seriously, rest up and feel better and don't breathe that outside air more than you have too!

I will be looking into the dental school and getting something to help with the grinding. It might take me awhile because I am so worn down now. But as soon as I can I will.
I have to fight with the county about the ER bills first and get that straigthened all out.
I am having to take care of Jim now because his knee is in bad shape and he can barely walk at all. This is fun, the blind leading the blind. ;-)
I am still so exhausted that I can barely do anything.
I do have to have the windows open which is not helping the allergies but cant afford to keep the a/c going all the time. So I have to put up with the allergies whether I want to or not.
I sure feel for you suffering with all this stuff too. It is a mess which makes us a mess. ;-)
You take care and know I am thinking of you too.
