I hate wrestling with those hard plastic packing material.  I tried
this gadget and it works and is pretty safe,  I was  happy to find
something that works.

I left Costco a note and complained about that horrible stuff and
apparently they will be changing some of  their packaging.  I also
noticed Energizer batteries changed their packaging......hooray. I
think consumer need to rebel against that garbage.
Consumer Reports gave some awards about packaging from hell.  Here is
a good article about packaging from hell:

That stuff is dangerous Gimps need to unite on this one.   I can't
imagine how some of the elderly folks open that stuff.

PS I have no financial affiliation just thought it might be helpful
for some folks. -- MZ

A pocket knife is handy and doesn't scar the contents TOO much. LOL!

You can also try a hooked blade in your utility knife. I use this blade
when taking grips off golf clubs. They are cheap ($2 - $3 for a package
of two) and everybody has a utility knife, right?

All this crazy packaging started when a guy in Chicago slipped poison
into some Tylenol to kill his wife. I guess he could not afford a
divorce lawyer.

It goes beyond that.  The "safety seal" on food is quite easy to
remove.

But they're talking about THICK anti-theft packaging on electronics
and
similar merchandise -- stuff where there is no poison possibility.

That kind of packaging started because of the creeps who would go into
stores, open packages and steal the product and then leave the packages
laying around. The packaging got progressively harder until today when you
need a blowtorch to open a toothbrush. I've learned that if you take a good
pair of scissors and cut just inside the crimping on the edges, the packages
will open fairly easily. The trick is getting through the layers of plastic
with the scissors.

i've actually made a bloody mess of my hand using scissors on that stuff,
and i've got good utility scissors.  that hard plastic packaging is very
sharp when cutting it with scissors!   so, be careful, sweetie.  my son
didn't want to see any more bloody messes, so he bought me a fold-up
sheffield utility knife/box cutter.  this works waaaaay much better than
scissors!  now i use my cutting board in the kitchen and this knife, to open
that horrid stiff plastic packaging, with little or no difficulty.

I ordered the one, I think it was Donna told us about it, that was only 4.95
and no postage or handling charges.  It is very good.  I got one for each of
my children.

heheheh . . . up here, last year, i started telling all my friends and
neighbors and sweetly/"innocently" told people waiting in check-out lines to
ask  the cashiers to open the difficult to get into packaging for them
(which is what i do, when i remember to ask).  and i see that happening more
and more.  our stores are starting to get the message, here, too---it does
tie up cashiers to have to unwrap that hideous packaging for their
customers.<veg>  spread the word, gang.

OhDear, and to say nothing about campbells pop open top can soups.
There is no living way I can do that.  So you'd think, no bother I'll
just stick it in my aoutomatic can opener and let it do the work.
Nope. the top is too deep set to use the can opener.  So I fliped it
over to open it with the can opener on the bottem and presto! the
bottoms are made ronded a little so they won't go into the can opener
either.
Talk about frustrating!!  I wrote to them about this and got no
responce.

Oh my, I've been buying generic/store brands lately. (around here you only
use canned soup in other recipes so it doesn't matter as much.  Soup for
meals must be made from scratch as it's such a staple in our cold climate.)
You've just given me a solid reason to continue doing soo - no pop tops on
the generics..

I've used a screwdriver as a lever to pry back those pop tops.
