Just been diagnosed with oa in the right knee. I am finding that
exercise and movement is helping a lot. Lying in bed is terrible cos it
seizes up, and Worse still, driving the car is murder. That is holding
my accelerator pedal foot still creates terrible pain.
Any thoughts please. I'm in uk. I know if I was in USA I'd probably have
the help of Cruise Control, but hey in England we are a bit behind!!

You might also be stepping on the gas with the other foot?

I wouldn't advise it. You have a dominant foot just like you have a
dominant hand. The difference being, if you make a coordination error
trying to scribble something down with your left hand (sorry for the
bias lefties) you don't end up crashing a metal box with high intertia
powered by highly explosive fuel... :-)

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

I'm in UK, Brian, and I can proudly say that US will always be behind UK -
well, by 5 hours at least!!!
I have OA too, and have had both shoulders, both hips and one knee
replaced - several of them have been done more than once cos I'm a glutton
for punishment lol. You should be getting your GP to refer you to a
Rheumatologist and an Orthopaedic surgeon as soon as possible. Bearing in
mind the length of waiting lists in UK, you sound as though you need to do
something urgently.

What else are you doing besides exercise? That is, has your doctor
started you on an anti-inflamatory medication or other medication? What
doctor diagnosed this: a general practitioner or a rheumatologist? Have
you tried one of those thermal support braces to see if it'll help when
you're going to be driving significant enough distances to cause knee pain?
Cheers,
Ari
