Hello Friends,
Just thought I'd spend a couple of minutes, which have been precious few
these days, to say hi.
New director at work who seems to believe more in meetings than getting
actual work done. Back to working football games again with the exception
that I'll have a helper with a radio to do all the leg work. I'll stay in
the control booth and take care of things there. That I can handle.
Otherwise we have been buried at work with school starting and football
starting and system upgrades to all of our edit stations. I love my work,
but it can get overwhelming at times.
Have a new member of the household. Rescued a 4 month old black lab puppy
last Friday from the local T.A.I.L.S group. Very happy, very friendly, VERY
active young man. I joke about being a young man as he has been neutered,
but he does have a "willy" none-the-less. Almost housebroke and cage
trained. Mike named him Chubbs. He actually bought the dog himself with the
summer job money he earned. I offered to cover half the cost yesterday and
he refused. Said I had enough bills to pay right now and he is right. Now I
thought Mike left a "trail" behind him, but he is nothing compared to the
pup! Nothing is safe from being chewed on and tore up. I'll be glad when
this stage is over. Sadie, our cat-matron of the household, is not a happy
camper about all this. Hoping she will eventually tolerate the dog, but so
far she has been vicious about any contact.
Played golf Thurs (men's league-won our tier-yaay!), Fri (last one off and
am now back on 5 day weeks), Sat (city championship), and Sun. Moose league.
My back seems to think that was a bit too much and has been reminding me of
it since. I do believe I'll listen a bit more closely from now on. I may
have said that before, but I have a short memory these days! My putter has
been hot lately and that really helps keep the scores down(that ones for
Janers!)
Better get going to work. Hope you all can have a pain-free day today!

Well hello Gooofer LOL.
congrats on the new pup. HINT on doggie car. when you HIM chewing on
something, take a newpaper and slap it hard against something. Make him
jump or look up then say NO NO, and take it away. EVEN IF you come in the
room late and he already chewed up your favorite golf shoes...hehe. I mean
it that works but you have to continue to be consistant and do it everytime.
I was also told to tap their noses but some "puppy and doggie" lovers might
be upset with that one.
Now about this hot putter?? I will NOT EVER comment on that statement from
your writings :)
sounds like son has a good head on his shoulders and you can pat yourself on
the back for instilling those values on to him. so there, again I
complemented you. But again won't say a word about that statement ABOVE..
Now you be good and keep that golf club a swinging because COOLER weather in
on the way.
Oh and by the way, keep me in your prayers. I am having foot surgery the
28th. Seems the old lupus and connective tissue has and is playing havoc
with my tendons and ligaments in the foot. Wish I could walk the golf
course, but then again, never did that much before :) DO YOU???
hehe
you know who now don't ya? IF not then janers will suffice.
take care now

That is the WORSE bit of advice! Any ASPCA will state that is known as
cruelity!
You NEVER hit a dog, tap or otherwise. You ONLY repremand a dog especially
a puppy WHEN you see them in action. And Labs are high maint. dogs and must
be kept active to stop them from chewing.
Squirrely - 15 Aug 2006 17:02 GMT
Janers, prayers come your way. Hope it does the trick and fixes that foot.
Healing vibes coming that way too.

Thanks Janers for the compliment!!!! lol
Should be able to golf into Oct. with reasonably good weather. Would be nice
if the weather stayed just the way it is right now. 80's daytime and cool at
night.
I really hope for the best results possible with your foot. I'll be thinking
of ya.
Saw the podiatrist last week and discussed repairing the big toe I have the
partial in. Took x-rays and he said the problem was the original partial was
too small and that was the cause of my trouble. Will put a total replacement
in it's place and realign the bone to bring the size back to normal.
Walk!? On a golf course!? They let you do that?? Started to this year but
the plantar facietis kinda said "I don't think so!"

When my son went to bowling camp in Wichita early July I thought I could
play some there. No way, no how!
I would think you folks would have to have night golf to get a round in!
I read the desert area is expanding due to the climate change. Hoping we can
grow oranges in Illinois soon.

Congrats Gary all the way around.
Please ignore the one poster who obviously knows nothing about Labs.
Sadly, Labs are very high maint dogs, energy wise. I'm actively invovled
in Lab Rescues. I've had several fosters, active in transporting them and
have a few of my own. My suggestion is that first you teach them you're
alpha (or whoever will be) then, Labs REQUIRE to be walked or exercised
at least 4-5x a day for a min of 30-40mins at a time as puppies. As for the
chewing, LOL um do I dare tell you that, that stage will last until they're
close to a year and half? This is when they semi mature. It takes them 2
heats (for females) normally. For males yes, snipping them will often
settle them down sooner. I find giving mine their own toys helped quite a
bit (though the eyes and ears were off within 10sec of getting it) -- Using
bitter apple or bitters works on some but not many. Also, try to crate train
if you can. I've also found feeding a BARF diet to them, actually helps them
not be so neurotic, less water they need and definately less of a mess to
clean in the yard.
remove the _haha_ if you'd like any help.
Our Black lab is a certified service dog and our chocolate is a resuced male
from a stud farm as they were being put to sleep.
If anything, this will be a wonderful way for you to get out and exercise :)
Best of Luck!

Gee whiz, I told you It was going to cause a stir mentioning the tap on the
nose. I am sorry.
I honestly didn' t mean to actually do that. I was told to do that and that
it would upset animal lovers to know that meaning people do that...
For crying out loud. You know nothing of me and my views anyhow. MY father
was a veterinarian and believe me NEVER would I mistreat animals in any way.
I was raised different than you assume I was. SO don't you judge me. I made
a statement and the statement was
take a newpaper and slap it hard against something. Make him
: jump or look up then say NO NO, and take it away. EVEN IF you come in the

And I WAS right. people would be upset. I never said DO IT.....
I said HIT it on something hard and read the words.
Boy sorry you thought I was giving bad advice. and don't jump to
conclusions.
Ask first then explanations can be given if I wasn't clear!!!

Ok, I give. What is a BARF diet. I think I know a few people who have one,

No prob gary. I just see much abuse from many animals and its from that same
line of thinking.
BARF diet is a raw diet for dogs and cats. For many years I resisted even
thinking
about switching my dogs but I'll tell ya once I did it was the best thing
that I ever
did for them. You can read more about it here.
http://www.barfworld.com/html/barf_diet/barfdiet.shtml
You can also do a google search on "BARF dog" which will bring up many more
sites
showing the diet. Just a suggestion. I just know from switching, my labs
have thrived
more and are more healthy now. My 9yr old's teeth were beyond horrible. He'd
lost
half of them and the other half were gross and chipped in half. Since
switching he no
longer has "poopy" breath and his teeth are almost white again. This was all
within
4 months of feeding him that diet.
Best,
RK.

Gary,
Hope things do settle down at work. Good news about the other stuff though.
Take care of that back. You only have one of them. ;-)
Hope the puppy settles down too and the cat becomes friends with it then.

wow, sounds like you are having a really nice week. where did you find
that extra energy and may i borrow a cup of it please. im a little
jealous of the dog. i promised lucy i would wait until the house was
finished before i get a new one. my 18 tr. old border/sheltie has been
gone 4 years now. this has been the first time in my 70 years without a
dog in the house. life is not nearly as good without one of the
critters to play with.
Hot putter huh. Enjoy it while it lasts.>g< funny how that club can run
so hot and then so cold on ya.
Keep hanging in bud. you sound good.

johnie, I like to call it better living through modern medicine!
This is the first pup we've had and the energy level is unbelievable. Good
thing I have a 15 yr old son to keep up with the dog. I never would be able
to on my own.
