I was cleared by my cardiologist to have hip surgery, I met with the hip
surgeon on August 4th. It is scheduled for the first week after our
high school football season concludes. He said the nurse would be in
contact with me to schedule pre-operation training class, preparation,
etc. What does this involve?
Played golf today. My partner and I got a cart. Told him to use the
cart, and I would walk as many holes as I could, than I would join him
in the cart. Made it as far as the 11th hole, then the hip started
letting me know that surgery was the only answer.

They teach you pre-op and post-op exercises.
You'll learn not to cross your legs; learn how to
walk up and down stairs, how to dress, how to
sleep, how to use the toilet, how to cook, clean
the house, pick up dropped objects, all without
bending more than 90 degrees at the hip.
They'll tell you want to bring and not to bring to
the hospital, should explain the anesthetic and
perhaps introduce the physical and occupational
therapists ( PT & OT ).

I wonder if I could get Mike's hips replaced...He would learn to Cook?....
Just kidding...
Good luck with your hip replacement... I know that it is just a matter of
time before I have to have the knees done...and I am sure the hips will
follow...
Oh I admire you for walking 11 holes...If I had to walk...I wouldn't get to
play...But I do as much walking as possible while I am out there...A little
excercise is better than none for me...
Good Luck again

I just read Fire Chief's reply and I don't have anything to add to his
excellent reply. The pre op classes are invaluable in telling you what
to expect, dos and don'ts, etc. I had both hips replaced 2 1/ 2 mos
apart last winter. And I think much of my success was because of the
pre op screening, and classes. good luck!
