I know a number of you have it...been reading old posts. I just
developed this in 1 ear- same ear has some decreased hearing. Am on
Indoicin a potential culprit, but was also wondering about Humira?
Anyone get this on Humira? Also what have you tried to make it better??
It's making me bonkers when I try to sleep. I was glad for the crickets
whose pitch are about mine and drown it out some nights. Kate

Hi Kate, I am sooo sorry this is taking place because I have been where
you are and sometimes still have the problem. It is something to talk to
your RD about. Sometimes it takes both of you to find the cause. I am
sorry to say that the some of your hearing might go away. I think it is
the culprit,,,, Indoicin but what do I know. I had to stop taking it
because of swelling ankles.... My last NSAID.

I don't know about Indocin. I do know when I was on a salicylate NSAID my
tinnitius was so severe I had trouble hearing profs lecturing in class! Also
I couldn't study in the library as it made me nuts. I had to go home and
turn on the radio or stereo. You might try skipping a dose or two, if you
can stand to, and see if it improves any.
It kicked up again for me when I was on sulfasalazine. My RD, a *really*
great one at that time, said ssz doesn't do that, but it did for me. I was
so glad to get off it! But, I also had more trouble with tinitus when my
psoriasis was active - I had it in my ear canals and somehow that kicked up
the buzzing. So there can be so many causes.

I've had it since before going on Indocin 1977-2000, It never got
worse, never went away.
...s Red meast is good for you. Gray-green fuzzy meat is bad for you.

Kate,
Indocin is a salicylic medication, like aspirin. Definitely can cause or
exacerbate tinnitus. Also, Cimetidine (tagamet), a common reflux medication,
interacts with salicylates. Made that mistake in law school during finals.
The tinnitus was so bad my studying was not very effective.

Kate, I'm sorry that I can't help you with a cause, but I can suggest
leaving the radio playing softly at night. I can't seem to get to sleep
without the radio because I keep listening to my tinnitus. Mine sounds
just like crickets so when the little devils start chirping outside it
only makes it worse.
I did go to an ear doc a few years ago and found I have a hearing loss
in one ear also.

Kate, I empathize! However, I've just about gotten so that I don't notice
mine much except early in the mornings when I wake up. It is especially
loud then. Don't know anything about the meds, whether or not they cause
it. I know aspirin can, but I haven't been able to take aspirin for many
years and my tinnitus just started since I've been in Montgomery.
