When does Methotrexate "kick" in? I've been on it since January and haven't
noticed any huge difference in how I feel.
I am taking 6 pills(2.5 mg) once a week.
Thanks for any input.

Hi Betty,
For myself, I never really noticed any improvement with MTX
(methotrexate) until they took me off of it (wowser, did that hurt!).
I believe others had better experiences.
I was on 8 pills a day at the end, but had been up to as much as .9 in
the injectable form (can't remember how many mgs that was, sorry).
Hope it starts easing things for you sooner rather than later.

I also started on methotrexate in Jan. and after climbing to 7 pills per
week -- as of this past week -- it has finally kicked in. And what a
relief!!!! Hope yours kicks in soon.

Betty-
I've been on MTX since 1984 and never felt it did a thing. My magic cure
has been Remicade and I knew within hours something was very different.
I've been on Remicade for quite a few years now and it is till working
(thank God for insurance). Jan O'

That is the amount that it started to kick in for me and then 17.5mg/week
for 7-8 years. Make sure your RD understand how you feel and Methx may not
be for you.

for me, I saw *some* improvement after about a month at 15 mg (6 pills) and
saw more after we moved me up to 20 mg - that is, more improvement for
several months until my body found a way to work around it! <chuckle>
If you've been at that level for a while, I'd say it's time for your RD to
try a further increase. If you don't see any improvement after 6 weeks or so
at 20 mg or so, it's time to try another DMARD, IMNSHO

I saw a clear improvement more or less immediately with a gradual
diminishing of side effects over several months. Now, after some months, I
seem to have a whole different set of pains, the legs, back, and shoulders
being much improved and the feet getting bad.
