I've shared this one before, but it's my all-time favorite post from our
bbaylarry....

It was in 1978 while I was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX.

We'd just bought one of those air popper popcorn makers.
I'd worked late and Susan and the boys were in bed. I was
going to watch a Freddie Prinz comedy special on HBO and
decided to make some popcorn.

I got out the new popper. Looked at the back where you
poured the popcorn into the bin. It said "Fill Popcorn
Here." I read it as saying "Fill Popcorn TO Here." So I
did. Got out a large mixing bowl. Put some butter in the
little holder for it. Turned on the machine. The large
mixing bowl soon filled up but the popcorn level had not
gone down all that much. So, I got out our roaster, for
Thanksgiving Turkeys, et cetera, and soon it, too, was full
but the popcorn kept on coming out of the opening. I
quickly got a Lawn and Leaf Trash Bag and stood there
while the popcorn kept coming out.

I knew how Lucy and Ethyl felt when they worked on that
candy line where the chocolate candy kept coming down
in ever increasing amounts. Or how Mickey felt as the
Sorcerer's Apprentice in Fantasia.

Susan and the boys still tease me about my great popcorn
making adventure.

It is still my favorite - I can see the whole thing happen in my mind.
Thanks again DeeTee for the memory.

I'll have to "mark" my files so I don't also post it.

Maybe I'll beat you to the draw next year after we've added
a few newbies.  <g>

Reminds me of the time my first wife and I (at age 18) were making an
applesauce cake. She was mixing the ingredients while I was in charge of
reading the recipe to her.

Well, the cake was in the oven for the prescribed amount of time but was
nowhere near done. We decided to leave it in a bit longer. And longer,
and longer.

Finally we read the recipe together and discovered that I had told her
to add two cans of applesauce but the recipe called for "2c.
applesauce". That, of course, meant 2 cups and each can was about 2.5
cups.

She never let me forget that incident.

Reminds me of the first time I wanted to add fresh garlic to
spaghetti sauce I was brewing in a CrockPot.

I didn't know the difference between "bulb" and "clove."

Thank goodness I had doubled the tomatoes, tomato sauce,
ground beef, sweet Italian sauage, and tomato paste.

My eyes are watering just thinking of that, Chief. :-)

sounds like the kind of spaghetti sauce that would have been popular in our
house!  (I at least double the garlic in every recipe right off the top -
and tend to add it to recipes that don't call for it.  And garlic soup is
soooooooo yummy!)

There were no complaints about that pot of spaghetti sauce.

And nowaday I tend to use 3x or 4x the amount of garlic
a recipe calls for.....chili, sloppy joes, etc.

... Mental backup in progress - DO NOT DISTURB !
