For folks who are enrolled in the Federal Blue Cross system:  Have you
gotten a brochure introducing AccordantCare, the "personal healthcare
support system"?  The brochure and letter imply that BC will hunt me down
until I enroll.  The system is supposedly to help me monitor changes in my
health, find resources, and so forth, but, suspicious person that I am, I
think that there must be a catch somewhere, and they are doing this to try
to reduce what they're paying out for me each year (which is a lot--I'm on
Remicade).  Am I being too paranoid today?

Opinions?

You tell us what makes you feel this way.   You are not the only federal
employee that takes Remicade here.   One other thing,,,, are you talking USA
or Canada.

I also have federal BCBS (US).  I've not seen this brochure, but I've
heard/read or something, I dunno, but I have a vague recollection of
something wherein federal employees will have to "monitor" their own
health.  Call me a skeptic, but I think it's double speak for Big
Brother is watching how we spend their ..... ahem ..... our money.  I
have a vague recollection of what you're talking about.  I'm going to be
out of town for this next week, but when I get back, I'll ask our HR
Specialist if she's heard anything about this.

BTW, I also spend lots of their ..... I mean MY money on various meds,
including Enbrel.  And, that sh*t ain't cheap.

The letter with the brochure says that "CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield is
pleased to introduce a valuable service that provides Service Benefit Plan
members with chronic conditions a personal healthcare support system"
through Accordant Health Services, which is "a company that pioneered
disease management".  When I hear "disease management", I immediately think
"reduction of services."

There's a link to more information at http://www.fepblue.org/accordant/
